What Board Brands Use Appletree For Production?

Hi All, I’m writing to see if anyone knows what other foil board brands are prodcued using Appletree’s technology? It seems like their production process makes the boards idiot proof (layman’s perspective).

Their boards are not that common here in Aus and I’ve heard them say multiple time the produce boards for other brands but never which ones.

TIA!

Some Majek boards (Glenn Pang). I think Levitaz too.

Ive had several Appletree boards. Putting aside shapes, the pros are that they are very stiff (both the board and the tracks), the tracks are among the most solid in the industry, the foam doesn’t take on water so repair is very easy, and they don’t need vents. The cons are that the denser foam is heavier - not a huge deal for a smaller prone or wing board, but the downwind boards are on the heavy side.

One thing that gets mistaken is the overall durability of the boards. They aren’t fragile, but I don’t really think they are are materially more resistant to dings than some other constructions and may even be slightly more brittle. The difference is that the dings don’t need to be immediately repaired.

Yup fully agree. They’re still surfboards. But getting out of the water and seeing a crack. Or setting up even, and seeing a crack in the glass is inconsequential. Fix it later at your leisure.

Takoon boards were made in the same Portuguese factory.XPS foam too.

I read they use just carbon fiber and vacuum resin infusion. Looks like these kind of construction makes board stiffer and consequently more resistant to dings, right?

Well yes, better than a team glass poly surfboard.

Are you sure about that? I know they have both build and aesthetic similarities and are both built in Portugal, but I didn’t think Takoon boards were built in the Appletree factory (which they own). I could be wrong.

AFAIK yes, the Takoons and Appletrees are both built in Peniche with the same inner foam (whitey XPS).
I have a vague notion of Takoon having moved to another factory in the last year or so …but not sure.
Sorry, no hard info, just rumours and gossip

Yup, Takoon moved production from Portugal recently.

Before they moved production last year, I think they were building in their own factory in Portugal. Maybe at some point in time they shared with Appletree, but I don’t think it has been for a while (their factory opening announcement was from 2021).

Takoon boards were not made in the same factory

My bad, i thought they did, both being in Peniche for a time and using closed cell foam.
Do you know who makes/supplies the foam?

The Appletree boards are good (Omen too).
What is not published is how easily the boards dent and get pressures. They are made with a very thin top sheet which saves wight at the cost of durability.

The foam prevents taking in water but in my experience the outer shell is weaker than say Jimmy Lewis and traditional glass boards.

The toughest boards i have owned are from Ry Harris using organic compounds and tree sap derived resin. Easily the strongest custom boards built. https://ecobyry.com/

My experience witg appletree construction couldn’t be more positive. I have had a 4’7 pro surf v2 for almost two years and it doesn’t have a single dent or mark, other than some light scratching where it’s rubbed on my bike rack. This board is I think the lightest board I have despite being the longest/highest volume.

Appletree construction is as good as it gets.

I’ve heard this before, so there must be some issues with some boards (or runs of boards), but the 3 that I’ve used have not had that problem.

I’ve dented appletree boards. I leave them in some sun and they have always come right out.
