6’ 215# 50yo kinda fit… kinda fat but lifelong surfer so paddling and wave knowledge decent.
Even though I’m in the winging demographic I’m just a learner guy for that I really only just prone. Ankle biters to headhigh ish.
I’ve been riding the 35L slingshot Flying Fish and it floats me and catches waves really good.
I’ve been using Takuma foils for two years now. 75mm aluminum mast and rotate between 1095 and the 1210. I Switch between Uni 18” race tail and Takuma 178 . The uni gives me a ton of lift with the 1095 since that’s a small foil for my size and cardio. I shim it 1.25 with a stringy fuse.
1210 is a great foil and it turns way better than the 1095. Just doesn’t have the speed. And 1095 has great glide but for a heavy guy you have to be really gentle with it.
I’m Ready to jump to next generation of foils. Maybe the progression 200? Someone on island here has the 170 and just need to link up so I can try that. Or maybe fone. Lots of wingers here use that.
Here is my 1210 and uni 18 set up on my Slingshot.
1095 with 178 with stringy fuse on Ebert. No shim. This is my speed set up but harder to catch waves. No reforms. Gotta catch waves like I was Shortboarding. Not sure on volume because of custom board. Probably around 30.
Thanks to each and every one of you for your input and taking the time to impart what you’ve learned here. It’s threads like this that make me love the foil community so much and make it so refreshing to come over from the eggy thruster-surf culture.
Upsizing my rear wing was helpful. I ran an old 34 surf for a while and got a lot of flight time. Eventually I found it to be stable enough but then it got too slow. Now I’m back on the 25 glide with a lot more understanding of how the foil responds. Thanks for the tip on that.
As for SUPDW, I found myself a 7’-6" x 23" Amundson Malolo used for a good price… stoked… now all we need is some wind in socal. Cheers guys
