An epic run of south swell has brought a ton of energy to my local prone spots. The 750 V2 has been amazing most days but I’m finding it a bit too fast lately. Mostly pairing with the 120 Usurf and 130 Ucarve but thinking about trying the V1 silk stabs on it to slow it down on bigger days.
Has anyone found a stab they like running with the new silks on big days?
I haven’t tried the silk stabs on the v2s but u might also try shimming some drag into the stabilizer?
I am no expert but if you shim some drag into it (positive shim) won’t that create way too much lift if one is already at the top end of the wing’s design? Foil Kook, I think you are getting exactly what the V2 was designed to do- be more efficient and glidey than the V1s. But try the Silk 132 and see if that slows it down. Curious to hear. For the record, I am NOT going to sell my V1s. Love the V2s for winging and when I want to pump around connect and glide. But for pure surf feels, drawing surf lines in the pocket, ripping turns rail to rail, nothing beats the V1 Silks.
i just got my afs silks sanded down to a race finish and gotten most of the scratches out, feels like a new setup, i dont think anything touches the v1 monoblock silks, from either afs or any other brand (nah i didnt try any of the other brands, but i just dont believe anything can be better)
I agree fully. When the waves are powered and I’m not fighting a strong offshore wind, the mono 650 is the best feeling I’ve ever had. Not even close.
But when the waves aren’t as powerful and there’s a strong offshore, the V2 has been epic. I almost prefer riding them with an offshore wind slowing me down. I’ve been connecting more waves than ever on the V2.
I’ll give the V2 a go this afternoon with the old silk 132 and report back!
Crazy seeing how cheap people are selling their V1s for now too. Honestly makes me want to pick up extras.
I agree. The 650 v1 is where its at for powerful surf.
I have been having an absolute blast on the 750v2 in smaller stuff. I put a 152 silk stab that I have chopped to around 6” on. It definitely helps slow things down without causing much additional lift.
I am loving the new surf tail in the short position on small waves. Very reactive.
I use the Silks with FD in the Atlantic surf. 850/1050 v.1 and now 950 v2. The v.2 feels more fast and loose but also more refined and balanced. Shimming I feel would kill the magic. But the original Silk and the Mako tails might help to slow you down. I have the Silk 142 and the Mako Carve v2 150 in G10. The 142 is a gem. Great balance between grip and looseness and love how it transmits info to the back foot. Just received the u-surf 135 but have yet to try it or the Mako on the v.2 because I am enjoying the 142 so much.
I tested my silk 132 (my old fav stab with the V1 silks) with the V2 and it felt great - but a little slow the other day. It was a much smaller day though. Definitely going to test it out again for the next big swell - I think it slow things down just a touch so I can start pushing my turns harder in bigger surf!
Any feedback on the 650 V2 yet? I’ve still been enjoying my V1 650 but tempted to pull the trigger eventually…
already have kd marlin13 (150cm2) tail, a 132 silk, a ha38 silk, what size and type of Utail do i need if i have for v1 850 silk enduro 700/900 ya think
What mast are you riding (skinny or standard) and what feeling are you looking for? Chasing speed, pump, glide? Riding swell or breaking waves or winging flat water?
Hi I’m waiting for my Silk v2 setup with skinny mast. I just wanted to ask about v2 set up. I was riding silk v1 and it was made to be ridden on a board wit 0 degree angle at the tracks. Is the v2 same and what is the position in the tracks compared to v1 is it more forwardand how much approximately? Thank you in advance
Im riding all of the v2s about 1.25" forward of the v1/enduro. All my boards are 0 degrees at the tracks and thats how Im riding the v2s.
I am also riding slightly forward. I find when my back foot is right above the leading edge of the mast I have the most control. No shims or anything but my boards have a 0 degree angle.
Using the board/foil balancing check of balancing the board upside down at the 1/3 point of the foil does this make the board tail heavy?
I’m a somewhat beginner prone foiling on the AFS gear - still on the 1500 Flyer. East Coast short period swells…this thread got me thinking about progression and what should I be looking at next in the AFS foil realm? The Silk V1 sounds amazing. Is switching foils a big step learning curve again and what kind of improvements/feels might I expect when I do?
get a 1050 (or 1150?) Silk I would say I think you’ll manage fine, V1 vs V2 will matter less at your level I would say, and will probably feel a bit loose and sketchy initially until you adjust
Agree. v1 is super intuitive and confidence inspiring. Biggest change is that you are going to have to be a lot more active to get onto foil vs a more beginner 1500 sqcm foil which is kind of like autopilot liftoff.
Silk or even an Enduro could be a good step towards more performance.
If you are interested, I have a Silk 1050 V1 I’d let go on the cheap.

Save your money and buy a used 1050 V1. The perfect wing to inspire some confidence turning in the waves as you progress. Once you are ripping and want more speed try the V2 but V1 1050 is probably a bit better for learning.
