I still haven’t decided on what mast to go with. I recently emailed Foil Parts to ask what they thought the difference was between their aluminum mast and the standard or high modulus masts on the market now. Here’s the response I got:
flex. I was recently riding it on the F-One Eagle 1090. It bends a bit, but probably similar to the Lift carbon mast. Not sure how the new Lift carbon mast compares to the old, but I’m talking about the old one. I think there was a new one produced in the last year or 2. Anyway, it is also very similar to the Takuma 3 hole mast in every way. At 175 lbs, I wouldn’t go with a larger wing than the F-One Eagle 1090, but its good up to that size. Every mast is very different, but it’s much better than the Cabrinha mast I tried. Certain people like a little mast flex, others don’t. It seems to be a personal preference thing. Some people feel that a little flex helps them turn. I’m not one of those people, but I think our aluminum mast flex is in the normal range, not too flexy. It’s great with wings 1000 sq cm and smaller that aren’t crazy high aspect. The benefit of this mast is that it is sleek and fast.
My only experience is with the current Lift Classic 28" and the Unifoil aluminum. I can’t tell much of a difference between them. I’m on the fence about pulling the trigger on this FP aluminum mast. Seems pretty versatile. It’s a Takuma 3 bolt connection at the fuse, so also compatible with NoLimitz in the future if I wanted to go that route. I’m proning the Lift 150 right now probably won’t be riding wings bigger than that.
