I believe they are referring to a new finish coat thats much lighter - theres some info on the latest generic foiling podcast with Jorrit. It debuted before the ML came out so all of them should use it (I got a proto of the V2 downwind board last winter with the change). To my understanding, the ML has a bit of extra reinforcement to deal with the hits from winging / parawank. You should be able to get a custom made at a lighter albeit less durable construction if you want it.
I have a 77L ML and it works well for parawing / lazy prone sessions.
Agree with the 2 posters above me. Plus they are going to be doing the bigger boards in hollow construction. Seems like the one of the first boards to come out in hollow construction will be a Ken Adgate collaboration.
After months of research and testing, we’re now switching to our new Coat25 finishing system for all 2026 boards. It has secretly been on some boards for some time already, but now 100% of boards will feature this
This process replaces the traditional epoxy hot-coat with a lightweight, ultra-resistant coating originally developed for wind turbine blades. It’s quicker to apply, much stronger, and reduces the overall weight of each board by up to 10 % — depending on size. The larger the board, the bigger the gain.
This lighter finish not only improves performance but also reduces production time and waste. Coat25 represents a big step forward in sustainability and consistency, while keeping the classic Appletree feel and durability.
