Best Cheap Wings

I have a 7’7 downwind board and I’m curious to try winging. I don’t want to drop $1000+ on some bad ass wing and then not like it. What ‘22 and ‘23 model wings were ahead
Of there time and, in new condition, still worth purchase for a kook like me? Ie I see ‘22 KT wings and ‘23 eleveight wings for $400~$500 for 5 meter. Thanks!

By 22/23 there were not a lot of bad wings. Just make sure your not buying something used with bladder issues that will be a pain to fix and you will be fine.

Personally partial to FOne strike v2s which you can find used for cheap. People will say they are bagged out but it honestly doesn’t make that big of a difference and is just an excuse to upgrade IMO.

You can find Cabrina/daKine wings really cheap new. The mantis is a good wing but they don’t really hold up over time. Cabrina is really good about warranty though for new wings.

fone strike v2 are cheap and easy to use

Yeah, you lose maybe a couple degrees upwind angle and get a bit more sensitive to being overpowered. Good tradeoffs to make to save a few hundred bucks if you aren’t sure about winging.

You got me curious what deals were out there. I would recommend looking at last years slingshot wings. They are heavy but well built. The sling wing v3 is a good grunty wing with plenty of range. Not sure about the Javelin but I bet it’s good too. Can’t beat the price right now for a new wing.

Mac Kiteboarding has some good deals listed and I believe you can also buy direct from SS

Grunty is good when learning. As much as I like my strike v3 I would not recommend learning on one as the low end is pretty technical to find. That’s why everyone loves the v2, it was sheet and go with intuitive pumping.

Man i saw those wings in person and wasnt impressed. I love my cab mantis quiver. even at 2 years old the front half of the canopy is still TIGHT which has the biggest impact on handling. I feel like those slings has baggier canopy which is the opposite of my preference

Have ridden both. Both would be fine to learn on. Mantis is lighter and probably flags better in light winds. But I have seen so many fall apart it is just hard to recommend them.

Dakine cyclone is the v1 mantis. Hard handles and a good wing.

Supposedly website s showing 1 in stock brand new for under 500

Anyone have experience with takuma wings?

That model specifically, very average.

if you have a downwind board a 4m should get you flying.
199 is the perfect price to start your wing journey!

I have a brand new cab mantis 4m for sale. $300 plus shipping….

I have tried all 3 of these. The low end is good, but they get overpowered easily and want to back wind on you. Hated the 4.3 at first, but got used to it and its hard to beat the price. The 4.3 should work well enough for learning on the downwind board. I like the range of the 3.5 and it’s and added bonus when the waves are up because you’re less worried about getting your expensive gear destroyed.

How would you describe the pumping technique. I’ve gotten better at it, but I still don’t understand what I’m doing different from the v1.

Does anyone have experience with Naish ADX wings? those look good but was traumatized by s26 Naish which was a total dog. heavy and no power.

The Strike v3 flys kind of like Ha foils. It pumps best with short fast movement. If you dig too much it just does not deliver the power of other wings on the low end.

It honestly just does not shine on the low end, but it points up wind really well and has tons of range on the top end. I guess it’s all a trade off. Apparently the v4 is a better mix of the v2 and v3 traits.

I recommend the North Nova wings 22/23, they hold up well!

Takuma is no longer in business so I would avoid as any spares required would not be available.

I have the 4 and 5m slingwing v3. Great deal currently and great wings. Start out pretty stiff but canopy does bag out and loose power eventually, but less so than anything near that price range imho.
