What are your favorite wings?

Looking to get a new hand wing, preferably used…. What are you favorite wings and why?

Wings as in front foil wings or wind ding wings? :joy:

I build my quiver of foil gear based around specific usage and conditions

But if I was forced to only have 1 wing(s)

It would be my Code 980s (as it’s just such a good all rounder in a variety of conditions)

If it’s the other wing probably my 5M Duotone Unit D-Lab as it covers the nicest of wind conditions to wing in with plenty of low end, hard handles and good materials.

I tried the Five-O Dynamos at a demo day last week. I was blown away with how nice they were. Simple, light, great construction, SO well behaved.

They’re coming out with the V2 in the coming months, so you’ll probably start seeing clearances and used wings soon… But I’m putting in an order for a full quiver of V2s

Have tried Duotone, Cabrina, BRM, Five-O, Cloud IX, F-One, and Ocean Rodeo.

First choice is Ocean Rodeo Glide AA (RIP). By far the best wings I’ve ever used. Canopy is nearly invincible, lightest on market, flags perfectly, just phenomenal.

Cloud IX has good wings too, but they don’t have a good range of small sizes and haven’t updated their wings in a while.

Strike v3 2m is an outstanding high wind wing for surfing swell in the extremes. The medium sizes were a little more finicky.

Duotone, Cabrina, BRM, Five-O were down the list for me. Pros and cons to all of them but none would make my buy list before the others above.

Thanks talking about hand wings should’ve clarified

Any idea what size wings become finicky in the V3 strike? I can’t remember if I was told before to avoid the v3… maybe it was the v2. I have an old f one swing wing I like a lot. Very lightweight but now it’s pretty bagged out with lots of repairs

@Bwalnut thoughts on the new BRMs? Seem nice…

The v3 definitely got mixed reviews. The pump onto foil was… different… I had a 3m that was just a bit strange to get on foil and I didn’t use it long. I wanted wings with a wider wind range. At the time of ownership I was pushing my high wind limit as far as possible and the v3 3m had a ceiling that was lower than expected. Also, the v3 confused a lot of us because F-One started changing the characteristics of the lines. So, v2 Strike and v3 Strike were very different. I bought the v3 expecting the greatness I was told was built into v2, but found out I should have bought the swing instead. V4 has ironed out the kinks and if/when F-One jumps into the Aluula game I’ll be pretty excited. As is, they are already light in the hand and will only get better IMO.

@Zarb Haven’t tried them yet. I’ve been dedicated to foil testing the last few months and the only new wing I tried was the Dynamo but it wasn’t for me. People who ride the BRMs seem to really love them though!

I’m a big fan of the Cabrinha Mantis.

Really like 4.5m v3 Strike. had a 5.5 v2 strike and a 6m strike v1 before. v2s are more userfriendly though. that said, i still prefer v3 given the better handles and materials. strong upwind performance. but take off, it likes to go downwind a bit.

This! I was on my 2m with Silk 650 in 40 knots the other day and the v3 went upwind phenomenally.

I’m a big fan of the Duotone Slicks. Just upgraded to the DLAB Slick from my older SLS’s. Great in the waves, and great upwind. I have always been a big fan of the boom, as well…

I started out on Duotone Units, absolutely wore out my 4.0 D-Lab Allula. Being 95kg, really like the direct grunty feel but they get pretty squirrelly at their top end. I’ve moved on to Armstrong xps wings and am pretty stoked on them. They are super well behaved, have good range, eat gusts, absolutely fly upwind, transition and flag out really nice. Maybe not the best at anything but a very good all-arounder. Word is they are less prone to bag out. So far so good.

Loving the ozone flux and flow. Huge wind range and they are extremely predictable under power and luffed.

Flux better for high end, Flow better for low end. Flux feels higher performance (faster, stiffer, more technical), Flow is more relaxed. Flux is wider span and can feel “big”, Flow is more compact and feels “smaller”. Personally I prefer the Flux most of the time due to how it handles power, but Flow is also a great wing and probably slightly better with luffing and maneuverability due to how it feels smaller in the hand. Neither wing is light on the scale, but even after riding super light Aluula wings for several years, the weight really doesn’t bother me, particularly in sizes 5 and smaller. I find the Ozone wings ride big for their size and I’m on a 4.3 when I would be on a 5 with most other brands.

Ive extensively ridden Ocean Rodeo, Cabrinha, Duotone, and FOne and the Ozone wings are my favorites.

Agreed the flux is a really great wing. Really fast and gets up wind really nicely.

I put this on other FB group, copy and paste here.
Had a chance to ride bigger waves in over powered conditions since. I feel it has a bigger range too than previous generations.

Quick feedback first try of the V4 Strike 5.5 (Swing is not available in Canada).
We own/owned every generation F-one from the original Swing. V2 5.5 now stretched and needs replacing (1yr old V3 doesn’t seem to stretch unless you fall on the wing).
Switched back and forth with my friend V3 5.5.
Both wave riders, no jumps, no tricks.

V4 is AWESOME.
Best low end of any of the generations.
Forward pull was crazy anytime a gust hit even at full speed, so much pull forward it was physical vs V3.
Looking forward to trying it with my faster foils.
Good flagging. Better bottom turn onshore wind with much less dropping against you for some reason (we both came to the same conclusion and watching him going into his bottom turns with both the V4 seems to want to fly overhead vs V3)
He thought the tacking lost 1/10 compared to excellent V3 tacks.
Most notable feature for me is the constant pull forward.
Most notable feature for him was the low end.
The back soft handle is very close to the strut but seems better after the first session. Will see how it goes with 5mm gloves in a few months
Hard handles to try next.

I’m really pining to try the new Gong wings but I can’t really find fair comparisons with currently on the market wings. They look awesome - anyone have thoughts?

I tested the droid. nice handles and kinda good power but was kinda flappy

Not sure what generation of Droid you tried.
I had used my buddy’s Droid UPE (Dyneema leading edge & strut with Kevlar reinforcement) .
They are very stiff.
Boom are stiff, light and very small diameter, works will winter 5mm mitts.
No flapping.
Obviously their team rip on them in all disciplines
Back ordered and expensive shipping from France so ended up with an in stock Strike V4
