Anyone regularly wing a 7M or 8M they like? I’m 180lbs and 6’2" so can probably handle larger sizes. Looking at the Armstrong Light XPS, F1 cwc and North loft.
I took a new job and sometimes “the man” ruins my afternoon and I have to go in less than ideal conditions. Trying to hear what people like (that actually works) in the 8-12 mph window. I already have mid length and big foil. Thanks for any feedback.
I haven’t tried the latest versions but I have both the CWC and the Loft from last year and the CWC is the winner for sure. I’ve had a few of them over the years and they are fantastic light wind wings.
Had a lot of issues with valves breaking on the cwc on the extra struts. Liked the wing when it worked but constant leaks and repairs. Could have been user error since all 4 of the valves and then 1 replacement all broke
Get the lightest 7m you can buy. Wings that size get really heavy and that makes them not fun. My max wing size is a 5.5m, but I bought a very light one and it was a revelation how much smaller the wing feels in a lightweight build. Feels like the power of a 5.5, but the nimbleness of a 4 (almost). Personally I found the 7m CWC was a total bummer since it just felt massive, but I’ve never tried the Aluula version and I bet it feels a lot better.
I think buy nice or buy twice is particularly applicable in large sizes. Diminishing returns for light materials in smaller wings, but makes a huge difference in big ones.
I’m using a 7m Cabrinha Vision 2024 version. Bought it new a few months back new at a good price. I don’t know if it’s the best but it works really well. It’s not light but at 5ft 10 I have no problem handling it. I used it yesterday in some very light winds and it was fantastic. At your height I think a 7m would be great. Kiteridersllc.com Looks like he has one left. Edit…sorry I’m realizing now you’re looking for 2026
6’4" / 185lbs / 85kg. I was just out Sunday 10-12mph with a Cabrinha vision 2023 6m wing, axis 1070 foil (877sqcm) and afs 145l 8’3" whitebird board. Now that I’m good at pumping, I’d have also been able to get up on a squarish 98L Cabrinha code board in the same conditions.
Later, gusts were up to 16mph, so I swapped to axis art 699 540sqcm foil + 100sqcm tail - and had issues making some gibes, but had a great time.
I mostly ride a Cabrinha Mantis Apex 2023 5m wing ($500 used: Cabrinha Mantis Apex V1 - Windows ) - it’s 13psi, and captures your pumping motion, rather than flaps around like an 8psi wing would. Once on foil, I feel 5m is fine for min 6-8, easy in 8-12, great in 8-18. max 20.
meandering sidenote about lower wind
I flat water pump in <8mph gusts, rather than winging. Ladder start / flat water pumping has restored peace in my life since I can flat water pump before my morning meetings begin. I can also ride an axis 1750 in 8-10mph winds with a 2.5m wing, but don’t recommend it.
I can ride it in 6-8mph with a axis png 1300v2 ~1500sqcm wing with a 5m wing.
I have an 8m freeride wing that’s 4psi - it was good for learning before I could pump the wing and board, but I rarely use it. I haven’t tried any modern higher psi large wings.
I’d go with a smaller big wing if you’re good at flat water pumping.
