Black Project shaft stiffness

Anyone have any experience with the foil-x paddle. I’m trying to figure out if I should follow recommended shaft stiffness guidelines. The idea of flex in the shaft scares me a bit. Full disclosure I have zero SUP experience prior to foil downwind, which I’m still at step 1 in also.

Hello!

Yes, the correct flex according to your weight is gonna be helpful in avoiding injuries.
You do need certain flex, but don’t get this the wrong way, the Foil X it’s still stiff and carbon materials and layer positionings are very well thought. I have one, small - I was doubting about the suggestion relatively to my weight, and wanted to go for an M … Good thing I heard Chris’s recommendation and went for the small one.

Plan on ordering a large. I’m 170lbs. Was using a code and felt under gunned. I’m not a skilled paddler, nor do I care to be. I just wanna hammer it and get on foil asap. Not overly concerned with injuries. Taking blade size into account (which i’m over sizing) I thought maybe would need a stiffer shaft regardless of body weight. Pull power and body weight aren’t necessarily linear

SUP DW foiling is not the sport for you then. The better you are at paddling, the easier it is. Pulling water is the exact opposite of what you want to do.

Not trying to pull water, trying to pull myself forward

Shoulder injury will occur with bigger blade and stiff shaft. Unless you have been training on other paddle sport. As much as you don’t care about injury, it will slow your progress.
