I currently use the Armstrong 72 cm mast with new ha880 wing but it seems turning is not as sharp as I want it to. Does anyone know if a shorter mast would fix this issue? Or, any advice!
What tail wing and fuse are you using?
What front wing is it not turning as sharp as?
I ride it on a 795 mast amd find it to turn very well with the 180 gail and 60cm fuse.
A shorter mast is a shorter lever arm. So you will have a bit quicker response due to the shorter length of the mast. Perhaps a shorter arc when leaned over on a rail due to the shorter length of the mast.
It will not change the characteristics in roll that much. If you want better turning you will go better changing your tail. Shim it for more “rocker” in the setup which will shorten the arc of your turns. Smaller tail will be less stable, which will allow for better roll side to side.
Or just change your front foil to something with a narrower span.
Sounds good, I’ll make those changes hopefully soon. Thank you all!
I am of the belief that if you’re using a new foil in an ha range you will need time to adjust. Forget about the mast size and spend time learning the nuances of your foil. Sure you can tune the kit to match what your accustomed too but in that case why? You’ll likely be carving harder and gliding faster once you spend time learning the power of that ha foil.
