Downwind Front Wing for M2O?

What do folks recommend for M2O supfoil dw.

Considering Code R, Lift X, Fone Momentum, Axis Fireball, and maybe KT Atlas. Wdyt?

I have been riding a little of everything lately on Maliko runs. Based on what I’ve tried, I’d ride the 716 Momentum. It’s very fast for it’s size and has enough low end that you can keep the heart rate down. The span can take some getting used to, but it’s got great glide and just enough control to hold it all together when the bumps get big.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback Matt. I am coming from riding Armstrong gear previously - mainly the HA-880 on the Maliko, but was finding I didn’t quite have the local conditions or technique dialed to make the DWP work. That’s my only concern about the Momentum is how much finesse it takes - would bumping up a size from your recco (i.e. the 816) make sense here?

You can’t go wrong with Codes, I was just in Oahu for the week / race. 50-60% of folks were on em. Top speed might be higher than momentums, sweet spot avg speed will be a bit slower, though they will be more forgiving. :call_me_hand:

From what I’ve tested so far — keeping in mind my humble level:

Code R
To me, Code R offers the best compromise between ease of use and performance.
They have excellent low-end capabilities, and the top-end is more than sufficient. The range on these wings is really impressive.
They glide well, pump efficiently, and can be flat-started.
There’s also a wide size range, making them suitable for everyone and all conditions.

Lift X
I really love the feel of these wings — they turn well and accelerate quickly.
Low-end is decent but clearly not on par with Code, and the top-end isn’t necessarily better.
The range currently includes only two performance-oriented sizes: 110F and 130F.
The 150HAX is super fun too, but not as high-performing as, say, the 860R (mentioning it because they cover a similar use case).
Overall, I found them a bit physical — fine for a 15km run, but potentially tiring on a 50km one.

F-One EagleX / Momentum
The mast feels a bit soft for my weight (95kg+).
Performance-wise, they’re close to Code: good range, easy to ride, and stable. Maybe slightly less low-end.
One downside (if it matters to you): there are rumors of a new F-One mast with M8 coming soon. If true, the current M6 wings/mast could lose a lot of value.

Axis Fireball
I haven’t tested these myself, but I’ve heard they’re quite technical.

KT Atlas
I wouldn’t consider it a pure downwind race wing — it feels more like a surf wing prioritizing glide (or a downwind wing that favors carving).
I hope that Kane is working on a high-AR (~14) race wing, though.

You might want to add AFS to your list. They’re expected to release the Ultra 600 and 900 soon, to complete the lineup alongside the 750. They’ve just released a dedicated tail, and their mast is top-notch.
That said, not sure everything will be available in time for M2O.

Thanks for this write up! And interesting note about Fone.

Not sure about the switch to M8s for F-One, but the rumor I heard was that they were going to down to a 12cm thickness.
