KT Atlas size recommendation

I ride the nomad 830 (wing, FoilDrive in waves)and would like to add Atlas for DW using FoilDrive.
74kg,80kg with FoilDrive
very experienced prone/wing. first time DW
good pumping technique and endurance, but FoilDrive is heavy so ruins pumping
conditions for dw typically: 10 to 16 knots, small bumps from thermal wind, Mediterranean sea,no ground swell

which Atlas size for front and back wing?

Check out the speed ranges on the kt manual, it’s pretty spot on. For example the nomad 700 and atlas 680 have the same speeds, nomad being the turning option and atlas the glide option. If you want the same speed as the nomad 830 but more glide, that is the atlas 790. Atlas will still be very comfy to ride with the help of the camber, but the turning is not super surfy imo.

I live in Greece, so I can imagine the conditions you’re talking about. If you don’t have any DW experience, I would recommend the 960/170. The 790 might be a bit too small.

why not 1130 ? as I have no downwind experience and very light bumps

1130 would be even better

thanks! a lot

I would recommend the atlas 960 over 1130. With 145 tail and 170 tail if conditions are on the lighter side. I feel like after testing many sizes these cambered wings like to loaded, especially the atlas range. The 960 at 77-80kg feels like the perfect compromise between float and ability to drive forward and keep up with swell. I think a larger rider might have similar experience with 1130 but for me it felt like once I got to speed it didn’t want to stay there it wanted to slow down again. My feeling has been that for lighter riders the 1160 nomad is a better light wind option than 1130 atlas. I have not tried the 1300 atlas.

my concern is that for 11 knots bumps with no downwind experience it would be hard to stay on foil with the 960. I plan to focus on such conditions (good wind I will wing)
An experienced rider in my area uses Armstrong HA1080, lower AR
should be similar but he’s very experienced.

With little too no downwind experience I think the 1130 atlas or 1160 nomad would be good choices. I am going to do a longer run on the 1160 nomad and 170 atlas tail this afternoon in 10-15mph winds I will report back.

I’m also 75kg and here in South Florida I can DW the 960 with 170 in the most marginal conditions, but I’m definitely on the advanced + side of DW.

Do you do any down wingers? If you can stay up without using the wing on the Nomad 830 in 10-15 kn for a bit, the 960 will be plenty big. If you can’t, the 1130 may make those conditions easier.

The KT stuff is highly tunable, so you can get a lot of range out of the wings especially if you have different tails.
