Trying to progress from riding the 150 to the 110. I’ve been using the Florence tail with the 150 and like it.
I’ve tried the 110 a few times, with the Florence tail, and need some low end help to navigate between bumps. I worry that the 21 flow will ruin the higher speed abilities of the 110, but thought I’d inquire to see what others are having success with.
Winging and prone is not applicable. What tail are you riding downwind with your 110?
There is a very significant gap between the 150 and the 110. You may need something in between like the 120 or the 130 to not have to go for such a jump, a least a the beginning.
The 21F Florence already offers the most low end in my opinion.
I also use the 20 carve, of FP adapter with KD race tail which are faster options.
Thanks for the feedback. Interesting, I had the 26 Carve and found it to be the slowest most locked in compared to 25 glide, 21 flow, and 21 Florence. Low end was good, but too much speed penalty. Guess I’ll have to seek out the 20 to see if it’s able to go fast.
Did the 120 and 130. 120 Is pretty hard to DW, much harder than the 110. Found the 130 to be similarly difficult as far as low end goes, and was unable to tap into much more appreciable high end when compared to the 150. So yeah, jumped to the 110.
For me the 110 is happy with pace around 2:10, and can go as low as 2:30, but it is a lot of work.
I found take off is significantly easier with the 21F than with the 20C.
20C is able to go a bit faster, but at the end I have the same average speed with the 21F and 20C.
Thus I go with the 21F in most cases.
About is 130, the sweet spot is around 2:20, and range is 2:00-2:40.
I use it with a FP adapter with AFS Silk 38 HA to boost the low end or KD15R for everyday.
That’s my everyday foil.
The 120 sweet spot is also around 2:20 but has less range, 2:10-2:40 for me.
This is because it has less glide, but take off is very easy and it turns much better.
I use it when I want to do a “carving downwind”.
With 20C because I like the front front pressure it gives ; I’d say it is a more surfy feeling.
Finally the 150, I only use it in light conditions when I don’t want to be only pumping the 130. Around 2:40 I’d say and range would be 2:20-2:50 ? 26 carve when I want to turn or FP with KD Marlin when i want more glide.
I’m 95kg, so you may shift ranges a bit depending on your weight. And for sure range will be better for a more skilled rider.
Original 110 is significantly harder than the Florence, but faster.
It has less camber, but I think the main thing was it has a lot of flex.
I really had hard times with the original 110 because of the flex during the first pumps right after take off. Once on fly it was okay, but takeoff was really punishing for me.
While I’ll never paddle up the Og 110, I probably have 500+ hours downwinging mine so you might find this useful. Compared to the 20C + extension I found the Foilparts long adapter with a Marlin 14 much more user friendly and still fast. Top speeds of 29, 30, and 31mph on various 3-4 meter waves flagged out. I’d have face planted or chickened out on the 20C.
