Downwinding with music

Anyone here use those open ear bone vibrating headphones? I usually play music through my phone speakers but thinking about getting a pair of those headphones. Was wondering what brands people are using and if they are worth it?

I used Shockz for years and they worked great, just a bit pricey and would have to replace every year or maybe other year. Last few years I just get the cheapest knockoff I can find on amazon (with decent IP rating) and they work equally well. Using earplugs while riding enhances the audio drastically if you don’t mind being cutoff from environmental cues.

How does the mic work on these knockoff ones? I’ve had some cheap bluetooth headphones with terrible Mics. I’d like to be able to take calls for logistics as that is a big pain with watch or phone

Unknown, never tried to take a call on the water

Shokz is great. I used to use the openswim ones that didn’t use a phone to connect.

+1 for shokz.

Mic quality of shokz is good IMO. But if you get water in the mic hole you need to blow it out for people to hear you. Music makes downwinding way more enjoyable.

Shokz Openswim Pro and a smart-watch running Spotify. So good.

Been using the JBL go clipped on to the life jacket, works pretty well.

Have been wondering the same. I bought a pair of bone conducting head phones a few years back to try out and they were terrible. Sounded like crap. Like you would expect holding your headphones 2inches away from your ears.

But find my self tempted to try again.

Currently also use the JBL clip 4 and it does work pretty well but takes up room in my limited pocket space in my vest.

Saw some Aussie brand of bone conductors that looked alright. They were silicone and bendy so may still work under a wetsuit hood. If I can remember and track down the brand I post it.

Doesnt the JBL lose connectivity if the source or speaker gets submerged? Does the JBL automatically reconnect to the source once its out of the water? I had issues with a bluetooth setup like this and found it unusable.

Ive used a Speaqua speaker to avoid this since there is an onboard hard drive. Annoying to have to download music to it though and the form factor isn’t ideal, but it works without any connection issues.

same here. I think I need to try the earplugs trick mentioned above

If I have a really bad fall sometimes it will stop playing but if I power it off and back on it will reconnect. Very rare I can’t get it to connect and play again. But that has happened.

I use Underwater Audio. I need earplugs in water anyway so it works for me. Has a player and no Bluetooth so connection stays on. Not much bass. I use swimming laps and have used a couple times foiling.
