Dw runs around Charleston,SC

on the west coast, but going to be spending time east. been looking at the sc coastline. north IOP → Folly has been looking like a decent 15 mile run on windy… curious if anyone is out there sending this one ( or any others in the area ).

I think that would be a long drive for shuttling

Yesterday I did five runs from the north end of Folly to the pier. Hitchhiked back Each time. It’s about 20 miles total. Zero logistics. I hit the water around seven and I was done by 10. I think by any measure that’s a world class day of downwind.

I did north end of IOP to end of Sullivans island last year, in a strong NNE, honestly a brutal run, really crossed up and tough to navigate.

recall how strong? once winds top 25kt or so ( at least around here in certain spots ) things get a bit washy. maybe a cross swell from the south? anyway, super cool to hear people are giving it a go. are there any longer runs (10m+) that people are doing regularly?

you’d probably be able to knock off half of that time if you didn’t have to hike 4 miles back over and over eh?

My run was 25 for sure, big NE swell in the water that was 45 deg to my destination

I mean I’m not hiking the whole thing! I’m HITCH hiking. I walk up to the road, stick my thumb out and have a ride from someone in about a min on average. Fly upwind at 30 mph in the back of a pickup truck. If I was walking I’d get one run in that time. Regular buddy car setup probably 3(lost of time spent running and re running cars)

Just stick to one island. In my old kiting days I did the folly to IOP downwinder and it was a whole day affair. Also, your not going to be able to connect across the inlets (wave will do too many weird things), much less the harbor Chanel (with jetties blocking your path)

This is regular NE conditions. We’ve had probably 30 days like this between sept and oct.
