Holy smokes yall last week we good a great day for runners and i did 3 runs, hitched upwind every time. Did a 4 Mile, a 3 Mile, and a 6 Mile. My first run of the day while im bouncing around the back of this pickup the driver passes me a beer witha coozie and who am i to say no! Made an interesting session didn’t think i was gonna PR my last run after that!
Shuttles are stupid just put a thumb out and be ready to be a little friendly and make some conversation. It helps if you live someplace with rednecks in pickups and summer weather is a big help! One of my buddies sugested setting up a downy and i told him to f-off and stop wasting my time!
Guys in Malibu have started taking the LA city bus. Cut the shuttle times in half or more. Full on wet wetsuits and SUP foil boards in with everyone else haha.
One of the guys on the casey forum is by an inland lake in europe in an urban area and uses the metro train for shuttle. In full winter wetsuit with an 8 foot downwind board. Also pretty hilarious
@TooMuchEpoxy is this Florida? Can you share the spots? I’ve got a list of public transport viable dw spots going and if you think viable I would like to add it… unless we are at the point of spots being blown already
Downwind shore runs are super fun. More technical than downwind in a way because you have the mix of bumps and swell, at least at my spots. I love it
Folly Beach, SC. NE is the good DW direction, the wave has a nice angle and prone chipping from the shore break kind of blends nicely into the offshore bump. SW doesn’t really make the same bumps but its possible. You can’t chip from the beach(wave never has the angle) so you have have a real DW setup and paddle way way offshore to make it happen.
