Thank you for validating my thoughts about the generic foiling podcast. I commented on their Instagram after the Kane episode and asked if they could replace Freddie. The Jeremy Wilmotte episode as guest host that followed was excellent. Even when they got sidetracked about the green yellow red zones on waves, Jeremy brought the conversation back to the topic. It seems like Freddie got the message and has been better lately.
The PP is still my favorite even when it often sounds like a Unifoil or Foil Drive commercial. The interviews with Omen and Armie kind of illustrate how suppressed is when Erik is talking about other brands’ foils, merely saying they are solid foils.
Holy crap…tried listening to the latest episode with Wieger from Appletree, and found it really difficult to stomach the idiotic sidetracks and bad attempts at humor. Weiger was a good sport about, but I felt sorry for him, as Freddie’s behavior was an embarrassing waste of a great opportunity. I’ll also extend that to the podcast overall, as they got really side-tracked a ton, and simply failed to do a decent job of asking Wieger about his boards and things meaningfully related to those boards (not “So who would you say is the employee of the month at the factory in Portugal”…WTF!!!)
I am enjoying listening to Dave West…who is actually funny and also able to maintain a pretty good focus on relevant foiling content
Thanks for the shout out!
Episode 7 just launched yesterday!
Let’s see where it goes
Here is what I send out to my what’s app groups!
This Case number 7 of the X-foils Podcast we sit down with Wren Dougherty.
What can we say about Wren! She Chose a perfect balance between Puerto Rico in the Winter and The Gorge in the Summer time to stay on foil as much as possible. Focusing on wingfoil racing, and mastering the art of Downwind foiling this summer.
You can find Wren at the reef floating on her wingfoil gear taking videos of the community, with a smile and extra stoked to just be in the water!
Her mentors and foil figures are all Masters on a foil and choose speed as their best friend. Johnny Heineken, Ken Adgate, Kiko Dalmau, Nils Stolzlechner and many more foilers helps Wren along the way get to the speeds she is at now. Whether it was getting her boards shaped on the edge of progression or hooking it up with Windex’ed Mikes lab foils, there is lots of amazing watermen/women on her path. There is no doubt she puts in more time than most, and thats the difference.
The X-Foils will come out every Tuesday with a new guest to build and get to know this community we live and session with. Something any foiler or water enthusiast can relate to and compare journeys!
Rate us and let us know what you think and what you want to hear! YEWWWW!
I’d also love to hear an interview with TJ from Big Winds in the Gorge. He’s been down winding from day 1. Race SUP, Wing, SUP foil, etc. His perspective on equipment, objectivity in gear selection for individuals, growth of foiling, the mass inundation of people into the Gorge in the summer…it would all make for a very interesting episode! Thank you, in advance, Eric!!
I recorded one episode with Bryan Lee, he talks about his background, different foil kits he went through, parallels with other disciplines, and giving back to the community. https://www.podbean.com/ep/pb-f3yqg-1745eb2
If anyone is keen to talk about foiling and other exciting endeavors send me a message! If this podcast becomes anything it’s mostly a genuine desire to connect with passionate people and provide an open space to explore different topics.
I’m really enjoying the Mediocre Foiling Podcast, Nick. It’s relatable for me, a bit like watching less clips of Adam Bennetts at Uluwatu and more of a small, blown-out day in Florida.
Keep ‘em coming
