I was just revisiting this video of him and not only is he so light on his pump but his skateboard zig zag style s turns seems to be another way he propels himself forward??? If theres anyone whos style I want to replicate its his. Also I think he shoulda stayed with Unifoil. They should have done whatever they could to keep him from leaving. I don’t think he foils any better on the new flite lab stuff, seems more fluid on the old Unifoil wings.
Hes top dog status
EG is so smooth and so fun to watch. If I ever am talking to a surfer that is skeptical about foiling I show them an EG clip.
I put my drone up in NSB and with just a single battery grabbed some of the best foil turns I had ever seen. I rewatch this video all the time for inspiration
They don’t have enough money to keep him on the payroll. Guy needs to make a living to continue his sponsored athlete lifestyle.
um. duh. It’s even crazier in person
watch the arm movement, its the same arm movement you would do in surfing for those manuevers, thats what im taking away from watching this
I had the same thought looking at the Australia contest clips. Ex-pro surfers arm movements are way more precise and fluid than anyone else and it translates into very fluid foiling
And Yes I absolutely agree by far the best style.
Rips!!! Fun to watch and super inspiring. Nicest guy in the world to boot – Not a drop of pretense, or arrogance. Friendly to everyone and an incredible representative of the sport.
Eric is certainly a very exceptional foiler and if you wish to study body and arm positioning in turns then he is one of the very best.
I don’t think you guys should be too hard on the Australian surf foil contest as performance always suffers when crammed into a heat and the conditions of the day. One thing that really stands out to me though is the speed that all the Aussie foilers are travelling at is crazy fast. Not just a little fast but just crazy speeds all of a sudden. The technique required to perform critical moves is dramatically different when so much speed is carried and this of course affects style. It might look like they are on the edge and that is because they are but soon they will be carrying that speed and be totally chilled. The level is going up fast.
I meant the comparison between the Australians, eg Adam as ex-pro surfer vs other non-ex-pro surferers just has a neater more fluid style for the same level of technicality
I think the nature of foiling small waves doesnt show the difficulty involved. The only way to tell is by drone. That and alot of post proceasing footage makes prone contests even less watchable but not due to the riders lack of skill. I see prone foiling kinda like surfing hulls, way more appreciable as a first person activity. For sure tons of guys rip just as good as EG but maybe its cus he is foiling in such gutless junk but makes it look so fun is what sells me. His form is also very directly related to his shreddability and it its easy to see. I just dig his style. Adam Bennets rips too but his level of foiling is way too inaccesible to me lol
Yup Adam B tends to be on bigger waves. I have seen him prone back into waves I would not dare try. But his ripping style is always present, big or small.
Eric G rips and his style is sick, but I’ve only on seen it on small waves…
Agree with this. Waves in Oz have so much power and we are always over foiled and flying so fast. Get the good foilers in gutless waves and I think they will level up even more.
I agree. I think his style was better on uni. More smoothed out.
I like to watch Adam in the smallest of waves where he’s precision positioning and timing ensures he flows with comparatively crazy speed between very tight turns. The very best to study in my opinion.
that first video Uni Foil Progression 125 Chopped (5 waves) is my favourite ever surf foil video.
Yea the way he creates energy through turns is crazy. He compresses and extends through each turn and also ends the turn higher on the mast to create more energy through the next turn. It’s cool seeing footage of him at hood river doing turns at the beginning small section when everyone else is pumping
Interesting how Unifoil had Adam Bennetts, Josh Ku, Tom Earl, Eric G..,Brian Finch , Paul Copper
Yes agree, would be really interesting how many moved, understandably, for financial reasons and how many because they genuinely believed the product was better.
I think when you’re at that level, the product itself isn’t much of a consideration. It all comes down to money and support.
