Front wing hall of fame

I think the GoFoil Iwa needs a nod as the foil that truelymade prone foiling accessible to the masses.
The Hyper 210 / Sig Albatross made everyone look high aspect
The Kujira proved high aspect could carve
the Lift 120 showed us we could go much higher aspect than we thought

exiled, which kujira for your nomination?

I’ve only been foiling for just over 3 months but have had two front wings in that time so do I get to vote? :joy:

These are the two I’ve had and yep what a time to enter foiling with wings like this to learn on (don’t even get me started on the foil drive I also have bolted on!)

Unifoil Progression 170 (has been a joy to learn on but hit it’s limits in bigger surf)
Unifoil Progression 125 (had my first session on it today and wow a wing that small shouldn’t pump and glide that well but was also amazing in overhead surf)

Ignore my vote if these are both too new but it’s all I know!

I’d give it to the 980 for being the first one out.

Yeah I still have a LF Impulse/Cloud 9 hanging on my garage wall!
Also the true foil for the kite masses was the LF Happy foil, revolutionized kite foiling.

Sticking to the true old gear: Takuma V100. It looked like a thick shovel but actually worked and had some of the original videos. I bolted one onto a 7 foot funboard and surfed it with Gabe Kling probably 5+ years ago, worked!

For us 85Kg + folks, the Lift 150HA X is pretty much unbeatable for a daily driver.

Uni Hyper (aka Albatros when painted white) were ahead of their time and still great foils today.

Second place for me is a toss up between Hyper 150 and

the early Rush Randle foil that evolved all the tow foiling.
Carafino foil for first to show foils were able to ridden without boots.
Spotz kite race foils.
Definitely gofoil Kai & Iwa.
signature albatross
Lift 120 certainly opened a few eyes (I’ve never tried one though).
Mikeslab 800

I’d say remove the liquid force kite foil thing. I saw that thing turn off so many people from foiling and create so many incorrect assumptions.

What about the Naish Thrust?

Got me into foiling after seeing the West Coast Foil Club OGs at San O

And +1 for the Albatross/Hyper I still marvel at how good those foils were!

He’s asking for best foils for the hall of fame. The worst foils thread isn’t up yet.

An influencer ripper foiler told me he was out and this kid was ripping on a Naish Thrust. They switched foils in the water. I stopped him and asked “how embarrassed were you that you couldn’t even get to your feet.”

 I’ll admit the Naish Thrust foil more than once had me considering quitting foiling altogether:

:taco: of death :skull_and_crossbones:

Maybe “infamous” is better suited

One year later, any 2023 foil to add the hall of fame ?

I would say that the Silk was one of the best foil of 2023, but not really « hall of fame » since it did not « revolutionize » foiling.

Hmm, hard to say what does and doesn’t revolutionize foiling but I’ll say the Cloud IX FS series seems to have had a wide impact on foil design. I’d say the Silk was the best foil I tried in 2024 and it revolutionized my expectations of foils.

I think we need to get a high aspect high camber wing on the list. I’m not sure if the armstrong or the Code was first to the party. I know at least the original code R series wings broke important new ground showing people just how much low end a small wing can have. I’d nominate the CODE 860R (James Casey M2O winning wing) for hall of fame.

Kujira 980 & 1095

All the Axis wings look like spitfire now

Speaking of high camber. Sabfoil Razor. Probably unknown to pretty much everybody, but it’s incredible how little wave this foil needs to just keep going. 631 cm2 front wing here in this clip.
