Which ones are the most durable esp with Parawing lines and lots of wing flagging and catching?
The most durable I had so far are the Waterproof G1 but they are super hard to find.
None of those gloves are going to be any good for PW, you really need open palm. Maybe those ION ones might work. I use my 2 mm open palm gloves (NP) all winter and it gets down to 5°C. If you use a full glove for PW it will get shredded when you collapse.
I ride around with my hands inside the open palm gloves then when I’m ready to collapse I will take my fingers out of glove before hand. The glove is still protecting the back of your hand and keeping it a bit warm. Trying to manage the PW with the glove on your fingers just sucks.
Hi guys. I’m wingfoiling above the arctic circle in Norway. During winter time we have around 4degrees Celsius in the water and air temperatures below freezing. It is really hard to find gloves that does not give you arm pump. I have been using these for a while now: Palm Claw Neopren votter til padling - Eian Fritid - Eian Fritid AS
Also using these under: Kraftig nitrilhanske - Biltema.no
They are one time use gloves with better strength than the white one.
I really hope that we will see some brands making curved mittens with 2mm in the palm and 4mm on the back to compensate. I am happy to be a test pilot ![]()
I like my mystic open palm gloves for cold windy days winging. Haven’t had to use them parawinging yet, but I think they’d be ideal.
For cold water SUP, I’m quite partial to the patagonia R2 yulex gloves, I don’t know about the thicker ones but these are my favorite of the many brands I’ve tried.
Don’t even both with regular wetsuit gloves holding a parawing bar. It just doesn’t work, your hands will get tired very quickly. I’m not sure quite why, but you need the open palm gloves. Maybe something to do with the extra material causing the bar to be effectively a bigger diameter.
The Frigate has a smaller diameter bar than the other PW I’ve tried, which can help with arm pump while wearing gloves.
These when it’s not cold
And these when it’s cold
The “direct grip” gloves do not have neoprene in the palm area, which makes them work for windsurfing, winging, etc. No arms pump. Not durable though, sooner or later the stitching comes loose. Buy several pairs, quite easy to fix when it happens.
I have been wearing these for a bunch of years kiting until the water freezes. 2 mil thickness with a fleece lining. Definitely worth a look.
Ive always wondered why no one has created an insulated version of Clincher waterski gloves to help with arm pump. They use a webbing strap and cylinder at the fingertips to transfer load to the wrist.
I’m all about those waterski gloves for watersking regardless of water temperature - works amazing to relieve the load on your fingers/wrist. It wouldn’t be that hard to cut up one of those pro-lock gloves and sew it onto a neoprene mitten, and I bet it would work great.
100% they make it so easy to hold the rope when you let go with one hand in a slalom turn
would these gloves be good for winging with hard and semi-hard handles?
Theyre made for a hard handle on a waterski rope, so yes I would think so
coming from a kiting background, I can say that Kite surfing in the winter with mittens is extremely dangerous. You have no ability to utilize a safety knife and manage emergency situations easily. I’m not sure how that would translate for you folks doing the PARA wing but just something to consider. I only use five finger gloves at this point.
Winging in Pacific NW (victoria bc). Our winter water gets about 7-8C. I’ve tried just about everything out there, thin gloves are too cold, thick gloves kill your forearms, open palm mitts are doable but can still get really cold. The latest I’ve found is a closed thin mitt that kept me warm last winter with little to no forearm pump pain is the Level Six Neutron Mitt. *Note don’t be tempted by the “better and pricier” Gritstone model it’s also feels thicker/stiffer more flex resistant (3mm) and you’ll end up with forearm fatigue.
I shredded a bunch of gloves last winter parawinging. The good news is that hands stay much warmer parawinging with the one handed flying allowing blood into the free hand.
