Has anyone chopped any of the G10 tails?

I’m a small lightweight rider and only ride the 125 anymore. I love the foil but as I get better I’m finding I feel over foiled in aggressive turns. Like way too much lift/push back. I’m using a zero shim like I have for the last year so I’m going to mess with negative shimming to see if that helps without sacrificing the pumping to much.

I have the tail pack but I moved on to the carbon tail and that’s all I ride. I’m thinking of chopping the neutral G10 wing down to 12.5 or 11.5 and see if that helps. Has anyone messed with this? If so I would appreciate some advice. Thanks

I watched the unifoil q an a with Clifford and decided to just start chopping. Measured a bunch of times drew some pencil lines an hit it with the jig saw and sand paper. I’m pretty happy with the finish product. Hopefully it works.

Have you tested it yet?

looks eerily similar to the 12" KD Maui Blunt

I have the same issue as you, I’m 76kgs. I’ve been running the carbon shiv 13 at negative shim which improved the speed, turning and glide significantly. Pump feels faster but the back leg burns out quick. The issue I have is when I do hard turns, i feel like the tail tips breach and flips me off. I don’t want to cut down as it’s my only tail. Interesting to know how it goes.

Was going to surf it today but the surf was micro and the wind came up so I went winging. I have Armstrong gear also that I use for winging so hopefully tomorrow I can surf the UNI and see how it feels with the chopped tail. I’m going to use the zero shim a few times because it’s what I’m familiar with to get the feel of the new tail before I start to use negative shims. I’ve learned to only change one thing at a time.

Will post after I get a few sessions.

Rode it 3 times still on zero shim. Double session the first day 1-2 foot wind blown wind swell. Today had some shoulder high sets and long stretched out lines. It’s Working excellent, the pump didn’t change at all, I was doing some 8-10 block shore runners and walking back up the beach to go again. The turning feels so much better, no push back feeling and definitely feels more free in the pocket.

With no compromise in the pump I will probably still mess with a negative.5 shim in the next weeks just to see, but I’m loving the way it works rite now.
