Is kite foiling any fun after prone and winging?

You wave kite with single skin kites? What happens if you drop them in the water? I haven’t dropped my kite in a wave in awhile but it does happen

I do think kite foiling is underrated. You can ride the smallest foils and do very aggressive turns on waves.

Kite foiling with the single skin Flysurfer Peak was huge because the drift is so good - it’s so easy to keep in the air, you very rarely put it in the water. Now you can use a Flysurfer Hybrid instead and get both better drift and super easy relaunch. No need to worry about using this in waves or far offshore, at least for me there is no kite I feel safer with.

Last question(s): would you feel comfortable kiting these in big breaking waves with a normal surfboard (non foil). 10+ft waves and 20+kts is a pretty standard condition for us on the Oregon Coast, but there’s no way I’m foiling that :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Granted if you drop a normal LEI wave kite on those you’re pretty screwed too!

Also, how’s the pop/boost for jumping? Just totally not the purpose of these and it’s too pure wave/drift or manageable? Seems like those flysurfer big air double skin kites have height records on the Woo, which is crazy. You’d never know, you’re right their advertising sucks!!

Would love to see a video with these on some serious waves, I’m very intrigued! Would be dramatically easier to travel with too. You could even sneak them into your board bag on a normal surf trip and hardly even notice!

The Flysurfer Hybrid isn’t very nice with a waveboard, as the upwind is a bit lacking, worse than a normal LEI kite. On foil they go upwind about as well as a good wing. It might be OK if you use the Hybrid v2 (better upwind than the v1) and have very sideshore wind, but otherwise I wouldn’t bother. Other Hybrid models like the Alma or Marabou are a little higher aspect and might be usable with with a wave board; I don’t know as I haven’t tried them. I always choose the foil for wave riding in 20-30 knots, that’s the sweet spot of these kites, though we rarely get more than 6-8 feet breaking waves. These kites are so extremely intuitive and well behaved that you’ll feel a lot more comfortable foiling in rougher conditions, so you’ll soon want to foil in this wind range too! I’ve used my 2,5m hybrid v1 in big waves in up to 45 knots - uncomfortable but not scary - though wave riding gets a lot worse after ~35-40 knots as the apparent wind and pull from the kite is still considerable in these winds, even when going straight downwind.

The Flysurfer Hybrid is really not good for jumping, it’s designed to sit deep in the wind window and doesn’t have a lot of lift. I often ride with straps and do small jumps and backrolls anyway, but I think I get more height from jumping off the waves than the kite is providing.

I feel like I’ve moved away from the kite all together and only want to prone and learn to downwind
