Large rider (100kg) choosing between 7M or 8M F-One CWC (V5) Aluula

As far as I am aware, the V5 comes with zero handles. They offer separate front (pistol) and rear hard handles and/or a boom, but either choice is purchased separately. I’d not thought about hard handles potentially damaging my board…but will now as (no doubt) more falls than early successes in my near future, lol. I opted to buy the boom with my purchase. Primarily because the inet-Brain-trust seemed to suggest that a boom would facilitate infinite positioning and holding with one hand. I envision eventually getting the two handles as well for packing/traveling ease.

But maybe one can still fit soft handles to the V5…I don’t know.

Hard handles or boom let you coerce the wing a bit more into position in the few occasions when it’s not fully self supported, like in sloppy transitions in patchy winds. Soft handles, with their curve, reduce the usable, comfortable hand position range. Your hands position will change a fair bit when wind increases, and also when the wing inevitably stretches later in its lifespan.

I think the benefit on a XXXL wing outweighs the minimal risk of banging the board with something hard.

My first year winging I picked up the 8m v2 CWC and it was the best investment. Got on the water way more then on my 7m. I never found the 8m too big. Might not be worth the extra cost of Allula unless you have money to burn. My 8m lasted me 2 seasons and I often rode it over powered.

Listen if you are 100kg, and you want a light wind wing, then definitely 8m. Do not think otherwise. I’m 100 kg and used an f-one 8m for years. Awesome wing. picked up a 9m and 7m last year. prob should have gotten just the 8m. The 9m is ok but not dynamic as the 8m. 8m is very manageable for people 80kg and up.

Thank you for the recommendation, rfh. Curious what your own light wind gear recommendations/choices might be under foot and below the surface? Thank you!

If you have the 120 f-one midlength that’s a great board to start out with. I have the kt v2 110l midlength although now i mostly pw. a lot of companies now make gr8 bigger foils for heavier guys. started out with axis then went to armstrong now with KT. I find the KT Atlas has super good low end, has better glide and speed than AS HAs, so that’s why I switch over to them. atlas 1340 is a light wind sniper that you can pump forever. the nomad 1160/155 is what i use to wake foil, and its the best wake foil i have used for my 100kg. turns amazing, very smooth, stable, forgiving and it’s the first foil i been able to pump for 2 mins+.

The CWC V4 comes with soft handles included. The V5 comes without handles and you have to buy them separately with selection of soft, semi soft, hard two handles and the boom.
The V4 can also be accommodated with handles listed above as separate purchase.
I bought the 7m CWC V4 with standard soft handles included. I was advised by experienced wing foiler not to buy the hard handles or boom due to added extra weight, that you don’t want in light wind conditions, that the wing is going to be used in. So far I like it and it is also easy to pack it in the bag. I may consider in the future to upgrade to two hard handles. The boom as much as I like it, it is cumbersome for packing/traveling.
