Light wind wing board (6'10" Amos Sultan Vs 7'2" Lift Flying Cat)

I have a few pre-owned boards that have popped up in my area for a pretty good deal.

A 6’10" X21’ x 115L Amos Sultan wing board
and a 7’2"x 19" x 105L Lift Flying Cat

Both Boards are priced similarly and in the same condition. What would you pick?

I’m looking to pick it up for light-wind winging on my local lake in conjunction with my Foil Drive, as there are no good places to get out to the wind or get blown downwind and walk back up when learning. My plan is to use the Foil Drive to taxi out to the middle of the lake upwind and a bit to get up on foil. Then use the wing from there.

I weigh about 145 LBS and am on the newer side of winging but advanced on the wake foil side of things.

I am currently riding all lift gear (170HA and 120HA)

Way too corky for your weight, imho

I rode the 7’2 and it was on the corkier side for me at 170

They are big for you. I would imagine the Lift would be much more stable than the Amos Sultan. The amos has a rounded bottom which is fast through the water, but rolls too easily.

I am also in Austin.

At 165-170# I have a 65L Sultan Prone board I use to wing, its really great. My foil drive won’t work due to connection issues. So you may want to check into that or plan to add a window of glass to it.

I’ll also add, having tried it, its more difficult to foil drive with a wing than its worth, especially during the learning curve.

I can’t speak for that Lift board, but for light wind winging, that specific Sultan you are looking at is really good. Lake Travis can be incredibly fickle.

Love to see the locals; I’m down in New Braunfels (Canyon Lake)

In winter, the lake is completely dead and has pretty consistent winds, but it’s all rock with no good ways to launch.

I’ve tried to paddle out from shore, but I get gassed after one or two tries.

Figure I could at least use the foil drive to get upwind in the lake, then put the remote in my pocket.

I saw the bridge in your picture so I figured you were in Austin.

The most important thing I learned winging was Taxi up wind on my knees. Once I learned that I never had to walk again.

I grew up in Austin and spend alot of time up there. I work for Boat Town- South,

so I’m on the water a lot if you want to get out and do some wake foiling!
