New Code Surf Wings - 810x

Dave West has been on the 810 at our local & he makes it look very good, even in crappy conditions.

If I recall correctly, he was on the V11 - so Code are looking to get it right before release.

I’ll put out some feelers, maybe we can crowdsource a group review in the Gorge. That would be cool actually. Perhaps the Nomad 830 should get tossed in the mix too. I’ll reach out to a few shops to see if anyone wants to help out as well.

Got a few hours on the 810x - love it. Can’t wait to try the larger sizes too.

I foresee it being my daily driver with the exception of open ocean downwinders.

I had the craziest fun open ocean downwinder on the Silk 850… I’m hoping that fast surf foils is the future of downwind. Struggling to see the downside other than you’ll drop more often and have slower splits. Itching to try this 810x for the same use case

For the Gorge it’s perfect. There’s enough low-end on the 810X to get you through the flatter sections (pumping exuberantly) - but when it ramps up my god it’s so much fun to carve. I’m really looking forward to proning & towing it.

I’ve heard the turning on the Nomad 830 is crazy. Probably a good candidate since it’s still fairly recent.

How you think it’ll do for longer period ocean swell? It would still need to pump alright.

I’m not the best person to answer that, I don’t spend a lot of time in those conditions. I’d imagine you’d prefer a smaller R series for those conditions - the X feels like it lacks the glide for longer period stuff.

It definitely handles speed in the sense that it can bomb down massive faces, and it doesn’t “lock” up in the roll at higher speeds - but you definitely need to work to keep it going.

Hmm, maybe the 720S is still a safer buy for me. Been having a bunch of fun on it. Rolls over great and it doesn’t lock up like larger HA wings do. It’s not often I’m on a wave and wishing the 720 would slow down here.

I spend a lot of time on an 850S, 980S and 1130S. I’ll be considering a “X” that sits close to somewhere between the 850S and 980S perhaps.

That will probably be the 985x, or even a larger size if one comes out. I found the 810x felt somewhere between the 615s & 720s in terms of pumpability / low end.

would an S in similar size have better low-end? Would you say X has a faster or slower speed range than S?

S in similar numerical size (eg. 810 vs 850) would have much better low-end.

I realise I wrote that in the morning before coffee because you literally said that in the post I replied to.

But I’m also surprised. I thought more MA foils have in general better low end than HA foils in similar sizes but I guess it also depends on other factors.

MA can go slower but that does not mean more low end.

HA can cover more distance (better glide, more projection when pumping). So at the end HA has better low end.

going slower is exactly what I would think “more low end” means. What do YOU think it means?

The ability to go out in poor conditions.

So to me low end is a whole thing, with main characteristics being take off, stall speed, glide and pumping.

high praise
