I think something that is going to happen soon, is that surfers keep trying to add more lift to their fins, until they hit a conversion of this point, is a board that rides in transition between off the water and on.

There are so many surfers making these micro foil fins, which i imagine doesn’t achieve much, especially when the little foils have stabs themselves (to achieve what, I wonder, or is this just aping a big foil?).
I would be interested in getting a pro surfer / foiler like either of the Eric or Erik on a super small foil and a midlength board, like a 250cm 7AR aspect front foil on a short mast with very slow speed lift, and see how it works to have enough lift to reduce drag, but not fully leave the water. I imagine it would be pretty terrible
I flat water winged a 8’2" x X 23" board + Takuma Kujira 500 4.8AR. Takeoff was around 16mph, so going 15mph felt like skipping across the water, super light, and lots of fun almost flying. The feeling of speed increases due to the bumpy ride, but it felt floaty, and almost weightless. Not terrible at all.
A friend of mine told me about a board he had built back in the '70s with a hoop fin, like a twin fin but with a foil in between. It’s funny but in hindsight his description of riding it sounded a lot like foiling, smooth swoopy glide… (the friend was Larry Tuttle and we were working on this foiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuYT63-TDnM around the same time for a speed record attempt)
