I bought myself a Christmas gift in a NoLimitz V2 mast. After the usual 1-1.5 month wait, I finally had it and was excited to set it up. But then I noticed as I unboxed it that it didn’t seem in perfect shape with a blemish so I took a closer look at overall quality and noticed that the mast and fuselage connection were not perfectly aligned, which I find pretty concerning.
It’s clearly not centered (There is an overhang on one side and an underhang on the other) and it also seems like it might be actually twisted something like 1-5 degrees (hard to measure).
I reached out to my retailer and shared my concerns, which were shared with NL and NoLimitz came back with "we’ll give you $50 for the mast base blemish, but the other issues aren’t issues. The mast we replace it with could also have the same “issues”.
I guess my big concern isn’t it being off center, but how it will function if the fuselage and mast aren’t perfectly aligned.
Has anyone encountered this with this brand?
Am I being too paranoid about this “issue” affecting performance and ride-ability?
NoLimits should replace the mast for you. It is unacceptably poor quality control.
I have a Nolimits V2 mast with terrible corrosion issues that Nolimits refused to warranty
NoLimits justification was that I use it in “salt water”
I would not recommend a NoLimits mast as they do not hold up and they do not stand behind their warranty
Did they offer a full refund to make you whole, including shipping? If they did, and you’re not satisfied, send it back without airing their dirty laundry. Fuck em though if they’re leaving you holding the bag for even a nickel.
I say a lot of mean things about some brands on here but it’s exclusively the ones who wouldn’t give me my money back when I asked for it
NoLimitz is the king for one thing only - and that is lightweight. It is the lightest mast by far. I think there are many better options if light weight is not the most important thing for you.
NoLimits does not stand behind their warranty. You were able to leverage your post in this forum to force them to do the right thing. I am happy for you.
In my case of extreme corrosion NoLimits was focused more on making excuses then rectifying the problem.
First NoLimits tried to justify the corrosion by saying it was because I used the mast in salt water. I asked them, did I buy the freshwater version.
Next they said it was because I didn’t rinse it with fresh water after every use. I told them I did.
After that they stated it was because I left the fuselage attached to the mast.
I would not recommend spending your hard earned money with a manufacturer that does not honor their warranty
I don’t think this is true? No one buys NoLimitz for the weight. The selling point is that it’s both one of the stiffest and fastest masts on the market. Before Bennets only started riding FliteLab, he said it was about as fast as F-One 14mm HM but stiffer. It’s the same mast that Omen uses. It’s better than most production masts out there. I can only think of AFS UHM as being truly competitive with NoLimitz because AFS UHM is stiff, thin, and reasonably cheap
Yeah, it definately depends on the setup but no limits isn’t the stiffest. I DO however think that mast stiffness has been fixed across the board and the bigger problem now is connection stiffness. I personally cracked all my progression fuses at the mast connection and now that I’ve got an AL fuse setup that I potted a NL into I’ve got a stronger connection there and stiffer (north Sf 930)
Hi Aaron, no you’re not being paranoid! I bought two V2 78NL mast in June 2024, one for myself and one for my brother. Both masts had the same issue but I didnt realise this issue until a few months later when my brother wanted a second back up mast which I bought and sent to him. When he received it he noted the crooked adaptor difference with his new/ second mast being perfect and so asked me if my mast was slightly of centre just like yours and sure enough, yes it was. I wrote to Alex at NL and at first he dismissed it saying its fine and it wont have any effect on the mast… 6 weeks and 15 frustrated persistant emails later I finally got them to pay for the return UK shipping, within 3 weeks of them receiving my mast they had a new replacement mast delivered to me and my brother. Now the one burning question for me was, is it going to be perfectly aligned? Yes it is but, from front to rear on one side its flush and on the otherside theres a 1mm overhang. So as much as I’d hoped to get a replacement mast perfectly centred and straight, I’ve had to settle for straight.
I love the masts. But I did have an issue with the glue coming loose at the adapter. They did replace it with a new one although it took about 6 weeks. Has anyone else had the glue fail on them?
I’ve been trying to decide between the cedrus evolution surf and the no limits for my next mast. Anyone ride both that can compare the ride? The quality of the no limits is what is holding me back from that mast. Seems the cedrus is better quality. I’ve also seen the negatives on the cedrus on this site as well. Tough choice. I’m also curious how the both compare to my current katana if anyone has also ridden that.
What’s your desire out of the next mast? That will help answer your question.
I’ve ridden both on multiple brands and what I can say is:
No Limitz: Slightly faster, stiffer, smoother in turbulence, better pump and glide, flowy riding style, thinner, deeper chord, better price.
Cedrus surf: Better maneuverability at slow speeds, faster rail to rail, universal system, maybe impossible to break?
Neither brand seems to think the fitting being squared up is a big deal. The pics of my cedrus mast are worse at the adapter and the mast wasn’t straight but they insist it doesn’t matter. Both brands also seem to caution against larger foils. No Limitz taking a very direct approach here and Cedrus a bit less of a hard line: “Wing spans have grown to exceed mast lengths, and there are new forms of foiling we simply don’t design for, and Cedrus may not be the best fit.”
It takes a long time for 3rd party mast information to really get tested and proven on the open market. Both the NLv2 and Cedrus Surf have a relatively short period on the market to be proven with every foil and every brand so it’s not surprising to see updates.
When I rode the katana with the progression foils I found it to be a nice kit. The progressions were just slow for my taste and I don’t know that either of those masts would dramatically enhance or diminish the progressions. The evolution foils, depending on how fast and thin they are might be another story.
I prefer thinner (thinner than my foils whenever possible), faster masts that are “monoblock” myself and see a lot of new offerings coming to the market that check those boxes.
Surf mainly. Using foil drive a lot now. Would like to get into downwinding as well as my skill improve. No interest in winging. Want a universal mast though to try some new brand foils out.
I have a friend who had his new no limits break. They fully refunded though. It just seems like you hear way more about issues with no limits quality over cedrus, but they probably also have way more foils out there.
I have a friend who broke his no limitz as well, while winging. It would be interesting to know the details around breaks. The one I saw break was a 230lbs rider with a 25" wide board powering wing assisted turns. Super smooth customer service experience for him, replaced in 2 weeks I think.
For DW the NL is proven. Lots of success on that for others and myself. I’d pick that over Cedrus if DW is a consideration.
For prone, couldn’t comment other than I can pump the NL better than the Cedrus.
For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t recommend either if you are wanting to test foils. I tried that myself and it was a disservice to the foils. Get a universal option if you think the design meets your needs. Test foils on their brand matched masts first. It’s surprising the difference it makes with some but not others.
My cedrus is getting delivered tomorrow I can give you thoughts on it after the weekend, should have a few sessions between now and then. Also coming off a katana 750 currently. Put city miles on my progression mast and missed the stiffness badly with the katana. Hard to get much info but you’re never going to have perfection with anything. Personally, the adapter setup and thicker heavier Cedrus made me chose them over NL. I’m riding some bigger wings, p200, evo175 and 155 as well as smaller ones too but often hit the sand at low tide while at speed at my local breaks and that’s something I took into account too. Planning to surf and DW with the evo surf mast. It sounds like both masts are right in the same class and neither is going to be a bad option for both surf and dw
Another note, I’ve seen two different omen masts which are a colab with NL but not the same as the v2 to my understanding. One broke and the other we had to work on after a bolt broke in it, I was very underwhelmed with the quality of those and both way more flexy that my katana. I know some cedrus guys and I’ve never heard a complaint about those
