I’m changing jobs this September and am going to have a couple weeks off between. The wife and I are planning (well…I am planning…she is coming) a trip to Northern Brazil. Penciled in plan right now is fly to Fortaleza, rent a car, and then start bopping up the coast hitting Taiba, Paracuru, Emboaca, Guajiru, and Prea/Jeri. Primary focus is winging but I have been charging hard on prone foiling the last couple months. Fortunately, my good wind wing board (65L mid length Proper) is also my prone board. Anyone know if what the prone conditions are like down there?
If you were going in December there would be a chance of scoring something in Taíba or Jeri. But in September it’s basically only windswell… Beach breaks do get bigger around the full moon, but it’s basically crappy surf.
@Grissomknew has good knowledge. I was in Jeri and Paracuru last August and brought my prone stuff, but there was never enough swell to use it. On the flip side, the wind was on everyday in Jeri and it was a great spot to learn to parawing.
If you fly through São Paulo and do a stop-over that time of year, plenty of swell to prone there. If you want to maximize your time and charge hard, do a few days of towing with the Bertonesia Foil Club. Epic spot and very dialed in operation. You can find them on Instagram
september is off season generally for groundswell Id defiinetly bring a parawing for down winding about as close to proning you’ll get that time of year, that said there’s a few spots at certain tides you could chip in to windswell bumps proning
