Can anyone recommend or find the thread where a 3M epoxy paste was recommend? Softer and designed for sanding
Idont know if its what your after but here Kane said that he use 3M Acryl glazing putty.
It work like a charm! The only thing is that I’ve only find it in white/green and red. Maybe you can mix some black pigment. I didnt tried. I dont care on the color and I like some color to avoid sanding the original material

Ah thank you yes that was exactly it. Yes not worried about colour and have a very messy foil and mast that I need to clean up
Iʻve used Bondo before, which is red. Iʻve heard the green is preferrable for how it behaves. Canʻt remember why, but red worked just fine.
Depending on who you talk to, red and green are complements or very close to being complementary colors. If you mix them both youʻll probably get a dull brown. Iʻve seen people mix graphite powder indo epoxy to tint it, so I tried mixing some with the red bondo once, and it worked great. If youʻre able to mix that red/green into the dull brown and then add a little graphite, I bet youʻd get pretty close to that dark grey in production foils. It really irritates me that I canʻt find a grey auto body filler.
Iʻm tempted to try this videoʻs process on a chip I have in the trailing edge of one of my wings. Iʻm fairly certain that if itʻs only a small area, I can shape epoxy down to match without damaging the nearby foil section. I think straight epoxy like this should be strong enough to hold up on a sharp edge. Someone let me know if this looks crazy.
Have you seen the bottom of an ac72? If shiny is bad how come they are mirror polished?
I think there’s often a confusion in these discussions between surfaces that are truly hydrophobic, e.g. wax polish, and those that are polished to a very fine finish that water runs off super fast.
I always sand with 2000 grit. When I started doing repairs, I even used McGuiar ultra fine automotive polish to even out the surface. My wings would have a mirror finish. I never noticed any difference riding, but I didnʻt like the look.
Now after sanding with 2000, I finish with a Magic Eraser. Doesnʻt remove any material from what I can tell and leaves my wings with a near factory finish. Useful if youʻre planning on reselling, which is mostly why I do repairs.
