Used Foil Maintenance

I have a used uni progression 170. I am noticing that the whole wing is in good shape, very smooth and new finish all over except on the ends of both wing tips. You can see some top layer wear on the last 3-4 inches of the leading edges and can feel that this surface is not as smooth/slick as the rest of the Foil. Is this having any effect on performance? If so what is the solution? Can post pics later.

Wet sand with 600 grit, I’d do the whole wing

I noticed on the new foils they have a hydrophilic coating or something. The water sticks to the surface in a smooth coating rather than beading off.

Has anyone experimented with getting that back on older foils?

It’s called being clean you filthy greasy little animal. Wash that bay boy with soap before every session. Don’t touch that foil with your hands if possible. Get it wet and see where the water breaks first…looks vaguely fingerprint shaped right? Touch someplace else with your greasy mitts and see a new spot form when you get it wet…

just throw a roll of paper towels and some simple green degreaser in the back of the car and wipe down before you get it wet!

600-800 grit sandpaper should do the trick
