Hey guys there is a new facebook foil market page called “Foil Market (buy/sell/trade)”
A guy name Reyes Patric is pretending to sell a bunch of F-One gear. he actually has it and sent me a picture with a note with my name.. seems super legit but then he has a fake shipping company website that asks for a $300 deposit etc etc.. He stole $550 from me via email transfer but i found out by running the shipping company’s website
I’m really sorry. I’ve had some pretty sophisticated fakes of pictures of (stuff) with names and dates that were either ai or photoshop.
Doing your homework on the company is a good idea- googling the address and seeing what’s actually there or seeing if they have a better business bureau listing in the US are all good ideas.
in the end, if at all suspicious, do a video call, and if anything seems weird don’t send money. A “deposit” or “down payment” are big red flags.
Reverse image search of items is also very helpful. Most scams re-use photos from other listings. I even had one guy send me videos of the items he must have requested from the actual seller. But when I asked for a video chat he got angry and insulting (“video call? What are we, dating?) and said I needed to pay a deposit to prove I was real.
talked to a scammer on FB. it was all good until i asked to do a video call. then crickets. but red flags were all over before that. pics didnt show up on reverse image search though. so maybe he had downloaded those from posts that were active in the past. location was also very suspect (loveland, ohio).
Video call is a must IMO, even for smaller purchases. It takes about 90 seconds to figure out whether you’re actually talking to another foiler. Hard to fake our particular brand of crazy. 
If something doesn’t feel right, walk away.
Lots of strange looking ads lately on FB (pictures of gear not fully matching the description), I’ve had a few sellers reply in terrible english refusing video call requests for not very creative reasons.
