@Stevendye is a scammer, I’m certain. But to be clear, the original posts selling gear might be legitimate (the Naish definitely is - I just spoke to @SKLTN).
I think the way @Stevendye operates is that he sees one of us respond to a post selling gear, then @Stevendye sends us a private message asking us to send payment via Zelle to ccashmoney8@gmail.com. Google that gmail address and you’ll find a bunch of posts on other forums where the same thing seems to be happening.
I think that maybe the move is to just not reply in the thread for the posting and DM the seller. It’s a good way to get this type of scam and also keeps from spamming the whole community with the posting at the top of everyone’s feed.
Can confirm! @SKLTN and I spoke on the phone earlier. He’s got boards to sell and a years’ long track record of selling them on this forum. Most of the scammers have brand new accounts and/or private profiles.
If only there were some moderators on this board who could easily identify these things. Or just make a rule that you have to include a photo with your username in the picture.
I would still recommend everyone make a video call with the person to see the gear in real life and have a conversation. But at least a picture with a hand written username is slightly harder to achieve. While AI can do this, it’s usually noticeable.
Another scammer account: Brunst . They’re getting somewhat decent too. Brunst has posted a few things on this forum although a close read shows he probably has no clue about foiling. Brunst referred me to someone else via direct message for my WTB Eagle X 800 post. The new person sent me decent pictures - I couldn’t find the images on google reverse look-up.
However, the phone call with the seller was odd. Felt like it was a crappy VOIP connection from half-way around the world. Poor english. Clearly no idea about foiling - couldn’t respond to where he lived or what conditions he went out in. Asked for a video of the foil and he said he couldn’t send videos due to the poor network in Texas About a 0.0000001% chance he is not a scammer and just a completely incapable person, but not about to send any money.
