Short chop tail boards

Yo frothers - I have ridden a JS Bennetts board and loved it. Great board.

I recently got a JS Black Eagle 2 which is 6 inches shorter, same volume. I would consider myself an advanced prone rider.

I have spent 2 sessions really struggling to ride my new board, like only up on foil once struggling. Both days were marginal, but I was obviously not doing something right.

Question; anyone had the same issue? I am confident it has to do with mast placement and body placement, but I haven’t cracked the code.

Any advice?

What is making you fail? Not catching the wave? Not being able to get on foil? Too twitchy?

Yeah not sure- I kept pearling - a new one for me with foiling. I had the mast all the way forward with a nose down mast shim on my Bennetts.

Seeing how other guys set up their chip rails, and had the mast all the way back, but kept using my mast shim. The one wave I got on foil was with the mast shim removed , so it’s probably that…

Yeah take the shim out to start. Check fuse angle to deck angle make sure it’s mostly level.

Tail shim if you have too.

Yeah thanks for that.

Turns out it appears it’s a body positioning issue. I was too far forward based on riding a board 6 inches longer (I used my knees in reference to tail kicker as to whether or not I was in the right spot).

Still sussing it all out but that explains my “pearling” issue. Loving this style board once up and riding, although like every thing in foiling, the learning is the hardest part!

Final update for this thread- for anyone else looking at chop tail boards.

These boards are a bit opposite of what I have learned prone foiling - generally I would say you can’t be forward enough when paddling.

In chop tail boards, I think the inverse is true. You want to position yourself farther back than you normally would.

Thrown the mast shim back in - everything is back as normal. Off and running!
