So who's tried the axis tempo?

Curious what people think

Hey everyone,

Just received my new setup: 1090, 1020, and 960. I’ll probably look at the 920 later.

At 95 kg, I feel the 960 should be more than enough for my high-end needs, which is why I didn’t order the 920 right away. That said, I can easily see it joining my quiver at some point. I also picked up a 720 Pro UHM mast.

I finally pulled the trigger after hearing feedback from several designers, pro riders, and sponsored riders from other brands — some of whom are usually far from objective. What really stood out is that they didn’t just say these foils are “better,” but genuinely on another level. I also know that a few designers have measured these foils in detail and used them as a reference or starting point for their own new designs, which says a lot.

I’m coming from Code R. I owned pretty much all the sizes, with the 680 being my favorite. Most of my sessions — easily 95%+ — were in the 680 / 770 / 860 range.

So far, I’ve only done one short downwind on the 1020. At very low speed, the foil feels unstable. After my flatwater sessions, I was actually worried that the minimum speed threshold would be too high — but in practice, it’s totally fine.

Once up to speed, the foil becomes very efficient and extremely stable. What really surprised me is how little I had to pump for a foil of this size.

My takeaway so far:

  • Takeoff similar to the 680R
  • Glide comparable to the 770R
  • Top speed on par with the 680R

But because it combines the top-end speed of the 680 with the glide of the 770, the average speed ends up noticeably better.

Looking forward to putting more hours on it and testing the rest of the quiver.
