Any comparisons from people who have converted fly surfer peaks? I love the idea of having one piece of kit that can be my foil kitein 12-16 and my parawing in 16-25. Covers a lot of bases
Hopefully just a early prototype placeholder to keep the early adopters from buying into other brandsā¦
At least in paragliding, increasing the number of cells means you can create a more efficient airfoil shape, and pressure is distributed more evenly throughout (which means less prone to deformations). It also makes them more responsive in handling, but also requires more active input. Also makes the wing heavier, and in many cases increases the number of lines required.
Obviously not all of this applies to parawinging, and more-so the double-skin parawings than the single skins, but thatās the gist. Specific to the parawing, Iād also take a guess that increasing the number of cells in a double-skin parawing will also make it harder to pack down and re-inflate.
Sooooā¦ TLDR, I think youāll see parawings with more cells being marketed as āwing replacement up-wind toolsā, and more simple parawings with less cells being marketed as downwind pack-down tools. Horses for courses.
Iāve done it on the 2.5 and 5 peak 5. Didnt have success as I was on a 45l board exclusively at the time and havent tried it with my new 73L.
I love the concept of 1 kite/ parawing to cover all conditions but itās a good 10+ min to remove/ add back the bridles. Iām sure the future holds a solution for this !
Yeah, the āOzone feelingā is that lightness in your wallet
Got my quiver of D-wings today. They shipped Friday, arrived Monday. FedEx to US. They are very tiny packed in the bags. Way smaller than photos make them look. Bar is skinny grip, like the best kite bars. Not the bulky fat bar shown on the web site.
Looking forward to your first ride report. Have to admit those D Wings are looking good and the price is better. Not a fan of the BRM bar. The fabric cuts into my hands. Nothing I canāt get used to but itās not an issue I ever had with kite bars.
They have landed here in Florida apparently.
I can tell you that getting the bridle on and off is not a super easy task to the point where I would rather just have 2 versions.
FSM, should have known it was you. Looking forward to your review. I have the 5.1 BRM if you ever want to meet up to do a side by side comparison. The flow does look nice and stable in every clip I have seen including yours. Did you get a 3m too?
We bought all the sizes.
Have had a few sessions on a borrowed 4m BRM (unmodded). Overpowered on the first session reminded me of flying early kitesurfing - feels very raw. Underpowered on the other sessions, surprisingly hard to get on foil. Seems like the range is very narrow.
I will possibly be waiting for round 2 unless I can experience depower/range improvements
Maybe youāre already here, but I had a bit of a lightbulb moment with PWing once I started thinking of the effective wind range as a property of the entire system - the wing, the board, and the foil all together. At the low end, either upsizing the foil or moving to more efficient board will extend that part of the range.
At the high end, I eventually got more comfortable managing the PW when it has a lot of power, which extended the top of the range. For me this is strictly a DW tool so far, so being overpowered is a temporary phenomenon. But Iām surprised to hear from folks that have figured out the upwinding that apparently works better overpowered, you just need to be hooked in. (btw I gather the bridle mod helps with steering/depower in high winds but may actually have less grunt in low winds)
So maybe with experience there is more range at the top end in both use cases than it initially appears? But I think everyone has the same initial experience with these things in high winds - āomg, my shoulders, my hands, Iām so tired but if I let this thing down itāll turn into a messy blob.ā
I went with the 3m and 5m Droid in hopes to get upwind machines for downwinders. Hoping I can pack them down on foil with over 10 years of foil kite experience (sounds unlikely), but worse case can always pack the single skins and swap while sitting on the board
For me personally I donāt like the idea of Gongs range- I find it hard to choose what size parawing let alone which model. Itās like trying to pick an Axis foil nowadays. The info Gong supplies is pretty comprehensive however & helps with making your decision but I like the idea of not having a choice & adapting to it.
Just give a buddy your credit card and have them pick one for you.
Ok go ahead then pick one out for meā¦ It seems the Neutra is the most like the other PWs.
