I know there are already posts on here about trench boards. I also know there are good things to be said about each of the trench boards on the market today. What I don’t know is why you chose the board you did, given the stiff competition in this market. So let’s hear from the owners of trench boards on why they chose one particular board over all the others.
I chose no trench, mainly because as far as I know there are not any under… what, 50-ish liters?
Riding a 31 liter prone board and it’s great. no need to add swing weight and make pumping and turning way harder.
I get custom made trench from Grant at 270 from Cali!
I make them to my spacs and colors for my clients. So far we have pushed our 7 boards here in Puerto Rico. The 45L 18.5” 5’ was under 7lb
Others I have had made were 5’4” 55L x 19”
And 5’9 60L x 19.5” coming in at 9.3lb
We have him make it with the trench wide enough to unclip the battery and easy to slid a bit back and take out and swap battery. I leave all the foam out of the tracks and no connection issue.
It’s pretty amazing how smooth it is to motor around and how connected you feel to the board when it’s so stiff and light. But I know you know the benefits. We went with 270 for the customization and killer build quality. All my clients are stoked. Comes at a price
Pretty epic if you ask me. Hit up grant at 270 he will make them custom. Tell him Dylan sent you.
Tried an Appletree and was immediately convinced with the benefits of a trench board. I bought the Zapple because of the “waterproof” construction (as fate would be I dinged it on the second session) and the flawless controller connection (to be fair many brands have figured this out now). Finally, the low profile mid-length style shape with forward boxes got me up and running right away on a 54l. I weigh 76kg and am at the beginning of my FD journey with no prior prone/surfing experience (just wing and sup).
Thanks Dylan for that comment above! He support has been amazing. The trench designs have evolved a lot at least for me in the last year. There has been a major progression in the trench build, design, and construction.
With a new laminator and shop who has been doing the last 30-40 boards, they have been flawless in build and design. The signal issue was an easy one to tackle for a variety of reasons, and a lot of it had to do with production materials used and some (Armstrong) with carbon fiber tracks instead of standard plastic.
We are building trench boards from prone, mid, wing, and SUP now.
I want to reiterate the lamination work which was being done from December and prior was done by a different individual than who I am with now and will be permanent from this point forward.
I am always open to design, questions, builds, etc. It is a new era for 270 Board Co.
