Uni Evolution vs Progression

I haven’t been able to find these adapters on stringfellow site - where can you get them?

just ask jim stringfellow

hey all evo folks
any thoughts on need for shimming stabilizer?

riding 155 and it’s awesome

Thank You

Can’t comment on the 155 - would love to try it.
My 115 feels like it has way more front foot pressure and pitch stability for the same setup compared to P140 and V130. My stance is about 1inch forward on the 115
I’ve shimmed mine down to negative 0.5 and yes, its awasome.

I like +.5 shim, no reason other than I just surf and pump better on it, only really notice the front foot pressure below optimal speeds.

I ride the 115 evolution all the time including yesterday, very good wing. Goes farther forward in the box than the Prog125 and otherwise a little better in every way although I think the Prog125 turned a little better.
I’m thinking of chopping the tips.

I ride it with prog14 tail and no shim

Using the Evo155 and for both Progression tails 13.5 and AfterBurner 14.5, I also do prefer the +0.5 shim. That’s different from my preference with Progression 140 where I was using a -0.25.

@Rad_Duke will be interested by your feedback if you chop it !

What do you use the 155 for mostly and how do you find it compared to p140. Obviously different sizes but thoughts nonetheless?

foil drive
love it
fast
low stall speed
smooth turns

The P140 I have to really work to pump it for longer distances and needs extra red shim surf gets bigger to manage the nose dips. The Evo 155 pumps back out at 2-3 kph faster and handles top speeds with less need for back foot pressure. Extra span in the 155 is noticeable, compared to the 140 in the pocket. Evo needs a HA tail on short fuse to unlock it

I’ve had the progression 200, 170, 140 and 125 for 12 months. My fav all round was the 140, and the 125 when the surf was shoulder high and over (I only really surf and use a foil drive 99% of the time). I used the 200 and 170 to learn how to foil. I’d ride these with a 800 progression mast, med fuse, 14.5 Progression tail and a 1 shim (I broke my 0 shim and didn’t get it replaced for ages, so out of necessity, rather than choice))

I’ve now got an Evo 155, 135 and 115 and I find these foils faster, with loads more control, especially leaning over and doing a bottom turn. I’m confident riding way out in front of a wave and sitting high on the mast. I ride these with the 15.5 afterburner tail, short fuse, 0 shim and 800 progression mast (again with the FD 99% of the time).

The Evo’s aren’t as forgiving as the progressions. But they are so much faster and much more responsive. It feels much more intuitive surfing them, the foil reacts much quicker to leaning over. All three Evos handle breaches really well, so well that I regularly don’t notice the breach until looking back at the footage.

I’m 86kgs and in a winter suit and boots. And it took me a while to get onto a 115 because I thought I’d be too heavy. This foil blew me away. It’s by far my favourite, so much so that I think I could have done without the 135. The 115 fees easier to pump than the 135, similar glide but offers loads more on a rail. The 155 is super smooth and loads of glide. But as long as you allow a wider turning circle, it can still perform!!

As you’d expect given the advances in foiling, the Evos are a big jump forward. I love them. Try the 115, even if you’re a big foiler, it’s da bomb!!!

(I’m a Unifoil and Foil Drive Ambassador, you can see how I’m finding the foils on Insta @andyfoils)

Great feedback. I got the 175 for downwinding. But when I paired it with a short fuse and the small afterburner it was amazing at how well it turns. So even though I’m light in small surf I’ve been riding that set up a lot as the glide and pump are so easy. It’s hard to know whether to go 156 or 135. But based on this review a 135 could be the go. Admittedly I still like the 140 progression. Generally it feels good for a wide range of conditions

I’m downwinding on the 175 and 205 a lot, both are glide machines, super easy to paddle up and way better than the progressions for dw. 14.5 afterburner and short fuse makes them fast and turn surprisingly well. I still love the progressions in the surf, they turn so good.

I found that the Evolution is much faster than the Progression. I first used it with the Progression tail and felt like it was impossible to go rail to rail—I had to make really wide turns to make it work.

Then, I switched to the Afterburner tail and finally felt the full potential of the Evolution. The wing turns exactly how and where you want, you can push it hard, and it feels awesome!

I’m looking forward to buying a short fuse, as everyone says it works best with this wing.

I also saw a lot of guys on Instagram adding a +0.5 shim. Are they shimming the tail or the front wing?

I spent time on the 155 and the 140 back to back the other day. I loved the fast pump of the 155 and the surfier feel of the 140. If those two had a baby it would be the ultimate foil. The PE 147.5 . I’ll try the .5 shim!

Do you mean surfier feel of the 140? And do you think there’s a reason to have both on the quiver?

I was considering the 155 to replace my P170 and keep the P140 that i love. But maybe the 155 could replace both 170 and 140 to have a 155 + 115 quiver.

Yes, thanks for catching that.

Thanks.
What will be the + and - of shimming with this 0.5 ?
I saw many people saying " more surf feeling", how so ?
