Yeah and that’s true but I remember Kane saying the big reason for poor breach performance with Armstrong’s first HA foils was constant wingloading all the way to the tips. Higher wing loading creates a thicker boundary layer which means there’s more low pressure on the top surface to suck the air across the wing and stall out.

I couldn’t wait to try the170 based on the reviews but found it didn’t give me anything the 140 didn’t do better
. Maybe there is something about Hawaii water. The waves you Florida guys are ripping look better than some of our average days on the islands.

170 is unnecessary for prone, 125 is all you need unless you are big or waves are tiny. Prog170 is great for lighter wind winging though

I tried F1 code takuma And axis spit fire And the 125 was the best all around
Things may have changed since then
And I’m sure if your goals down winding there are better foils, but for going out catching waves and pumping out to the next one, I haven’t tried anything better.
The F1 skate is really close. But at 200 pounds, Their connection just doesn’t hold up and I can’t afford to buy new stuff all the time.
Luckily string fellow makes a code Unifoil Adapter that looks pretty slick if you want a downwind specific wing.
But hey, demo stuff, borrow your friends stuff, Loan your stuff to them, It’s a great time to be in the water.

Hi. While I’m waiting for the detail on the evolution, I’m trying to decide between the Progression 125 and 100. I have the 140 but looking for more top end and sharper turns and maybe bigger waves. I’m a fairly good wave rider but only average on pumps. Is the 125 enough of a variation or should I go all out to the 100? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

How big are you? How important is pumping? At 6’4 190lbs I can daily drive the 125, but not the 100.

The 100 is noticeably surfier than the 125, especially in bigger conditions, but it comes at the cost of pump. If you have big waves and/or you want to rip and don’t need to connect more than 1 wave I’d get 100. If you want more pump and waves aren’t frequently overhead then 125.

Regarding the 140 - its very similar to the 125, with more chord and thicker. They surf very similarly, but the 125 is faster. The 100 would feel like a lot more of a step down than the 125.

I would suggest doing the 100. The 125 and 140 felt like a pointless 2 wing quiver to me since they have the same span, so when downsizing you got more speed and higher stall, but nothing in the turning. I sold the 125 for this reason. I saw a 100 in person and liked how it felt compared to the 125.

Thank you. I will probably look at the 100 to obtain the clear differential between foils. That way I don’t have to be second guessing myself all the time. Cheers.

I heard today that there’s 6 sizes available:

115, 135, 155, 175, 205, and 235

Weird that the only ones being mentioned are the 135 and 155.

Where is the specs from? Very surprised that they would make a 205 and 235 version for the “advanced” proners and introduce a sperate DW range too.

I surf giant wings in near flat conditions often. It’s almost impossible to “unstick” smaller wings when it’s shin high and barely breaking. I use big wings for ladder starts in the summer too. It’s fun riding the micro waves for extended stretches of time, 8-30+ mins

Also, look at Axis’s largest spitfire (surf wing) size, the 1180. It’s very popular for people light wind winging (smaller bumps) and for bay style downwinders that aren’t trying to go fast.

I remember when the professions came out. It was only available in one or two sizes, then for the next size it took like 6 months+. I remember in the progression podcasts Erik was always talking about how much work it took to create a different size and it wasn’t a simple scale up/scale down. He said it was like creating a new wing from scratch. Now all of the sudden it’s a cut and paste size up? I’m not complaining, it’s the same thing that my current fav brand code has done, they just copy and paste and size up. But curious why the older progressions were so special that it took forever to create a new size even though everyone was chumping on the bits to get the new size but it wasnt available.

I bet it all depends on how much 1 person has control over it, vs the company needs to make money to remain solvent. :slight_smile:

I believe they changed their moulding process which speeds it up

We’ve learned a lot over the last year and are now integrating some high level CFD and brought a former F1 aero designer on to head that portion. We ran models of all Uni foils and were able to map characteristics to performance aspects and feel. That and utilizing AI has greatly sped up the design process. The range does not just scale, and the performance sizes were prototyped and tested. The game has greatly changed from a few years ago of try and refine. Margins are so much smaller now, and we understand feel a lot better.

I think folks are going to be stoked on the Evos. Just had a mental session on the 155.

Any ETA on the release for the small ones? And do these make the Prog100 obsolete?
