I recently got an email from the folks at FIve-O promising all sorts of new toys…
I’m pretty stoked to see what’s coming, after all this brand has a track record of ground breaking developments (Dyneema airframes and the whole parawing thing)
Aloha from Five-O …I can’t really say to much. We are working on a spring launch for the Dynamo V3 with some exciting new features that will make it your favorite wing by far!! . New model Pocket wing currently under development will be released only when it’s finished. We have been listening and we will respond with a new product, and it will be what we are all looking for.
Stay tuned. Aloha🤙🏽
Wishing everyone finds some wind to fill their sail today…
I agree. It would be great to hear what they have to say. I can’t see why any response would be “flagged”, Five 0 seems like a passionate and (I assume) small brand, trying to develop cool stuff - not some huge industry giant.
Welcome @FIVE-O ! Somehow you got caught in the spam filter, but you guys are all set now. Let me know how we test these wings!!! Would be stoked to have you on the pod too at some point.
Aloha Erik…. Thanks for sorting that out… be happy to see how we can get you to try em out… and I would be happy to do a pod sometime.. Where are you located ?
Full disclosure, I am involved on the periphery of @FIVE-O doing some SEO/Website work but what I can say is that their passion is infectious. Not just the core team but all of their ambassadors just love being involved. This make the long screen hours and navigating the ten hour time difference worth it!
I’ve been an admirer of Five-O’s search for a better canopy material for some time. Conventional canopies make wings a fast deteriorating piece of equipment so anything that prolongs their life is a good thing, both for riders and the planet.
I haven’t yet had the chance to try their wings but whatever is coming…. I cannot wait to try it!
“Doesn’t look too crazy” is exactly what makes all the Dynamo wings so good.
I’ve been on them for about two years now. When I first saw them, I’m pretty sure I thought very similar to “doesn’t look to crazy”. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I had been lured into all the tech specs and flash of wind wing innovation, and now in hind-site, I realize over-complication.
The reality hit when I simply picked one up. It feels completely different than any other on the market (so much so that it has ruined the feel of any other wing for me since).
The wings are simple, that’s the point. Designer Sam Reynolds stripped back the common wing design to its most simple, light weight and high performance form. There’s not a single extra stitch, overly modified component, or even gaudy logo printing. All of that stuff adds to more weight, more complications, repairs, and over-all less longevity.
I am very hard on my wings in the water and take good care of them on land. I still have my V1 Dynamos working in perfect form for 2 years now. Formerly, my other wings wouldn’t last 6 months.
The Dyneema is the foundation for these exceptional wings, but Sam’s simplified design approach makes these wings top of the line for performance and durability.
The new boom is the icing on the best cake I’ve ever eaten.
I guess what I really meant was, I opened the email and wondered if I was missing something because it was primarily existing products (aside from the Boom’Wing). I think the poster might have been talking about the teaser language at the bottom of the email that I didn’t notice until today on my 3rd read.
Not meant to be a critique of the dynamo wing - which is amazing for exactly the reasons you mention - removing the faff, and being innovative on materials to shrink the LE and offer a different, totally blazing-fast experience. The delta between parawing vs. winging feels a lot smaller when I’m switching between a doused PW, vs. an almost weightless feeling dynamo on a swell. If I still was pumping up wings, they would probably be dynamos.
