Turtles are protected there. So I don’t believe anyone will admit to hitting one. At least not on a podcast ha ha

Nah it’s not a ONE but we do make something similar, been testing a 850 monobloc carbon/titanium set up for nearly a year and the concept feels pretty good, done quite a few updates but for performance side I really like it. Not as easy to make and to make strong but maybe well worth it.

Anyhoo, it’s clear that all the brands are innovating. As they should. The arms race continues.
Back to this race… it appears almost everyone has Edo, Kane, Kai in their top 5. So who are the other two riders you like? Is someone prepared to go out on a limb and leave one or more of these 3 out of their picks?

Probably the standout performer that has not got a mention is Andrew/Naish. For him to be so on the pace… anyone know anything? Very fast, and I doubt they are messing around with OPF
Trent Carter Interview:
Trent mentions Hobey Moses (F-one) was probably in 1st through halfway, but blew up - and got relegated to 32nd place. He says that it’s a razors edge margin between the top 25 guys - anyones race to take. This will be an exciting race season to follow! He’s expecting 1 minute or so separating the top 25 at Paddle Imua. Wish there was a follow drone up around 100’ following with a live stream!

The simplest solution and why has no one ever done this. I get so upset about it. We do NOT want just footage of the leaders either. That was my biggest issue of the helicopter coverage last year.

Yeah the view of the racers and the vantage point of the swell lines would be great. You could see the seams and line choices. That coupled with the dot vision would be all you need. Split screen style.
Downwind Sim game on a desktop allows you to mess with the camera angle. I guess the problem is that riders get really small, really fast.

We need James Casey to do a live watch party. I’ve told him a couple times to do this. We shall see if he goes to race this year or not. If he doesn’t I’ll tell him a fourth time.
Someone that can recognize who is who is vital to good commentary.
EDIT: Pet peeve of mine. The word is trough. It’s been trough for ages. It’s not seams.

I wouldn’t agree that all brands are innovating. I think it would be fairer to say some brands are and others are adopting a version of Axis’s innovation.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just buy your riders’ Axis Tempos? Tempos results from the past 12 months are proven.This strategy seemed to work out pretty well for the Slingshot riders last weekend… maybe not so much for Slingshot as a brand. So perhaps copying is the real R&D plan? Way more cost effective. Why bother with R&D when someone else has already done the work.
I don’t think Slingshot has taken too big of a ding. They’ve been taking some risks and collaborating with with Ken Adgate, adding tuttle as an option, which helps offset for sure.
If they had slapped a Slingshot sticker on the SR mast, that woulda crossed a line lol.
In the Trent Carter interview, linked above, he mentions there will likely be a lot of gear failures. Guys are sanding down already thin gear. I was shared a photo of a broken thin long mast from a brand who will remain nameless, snapped at the fuse connection. Looked like it occurred on a training run on one of the channel crossings.
I think copying other brands progress will be harder than one would think. There’s a lot of nuance and technical limitations that come in to play when you get to the pointy end.
