Best anti-slop remedy for Unifoil's mast to foil connection

Hi, I’ve got a near new Katana mast, and near new Hyper2 190, the connection is super tight, I torque the 2 bolts iteratively, until both tight. And I need a bit of whacking it to take it off. Perfect fit.

But, I have a P125 that I bought 2nd hand, and it feels like the mast is pretty much bottoming out in the socket, therefore the 2 bolts don’t really tighten anything before they’re at max, and there’s a tiny bit of slop, definitely noticeable on the water. I’ve rubbed surf wax on the sides of the mast, and it helped, but I’m looking for better / more long term fix.

Because I swap between those wings often, adding aluminium tape on mast foot to shim it a little would be a hassle, and bits of beer cans are also a suboptimal fix. Is there something I can brush in the footing of the P125 to make it slightly tighter? Maybe spraying some clearcoat after masking the bottom? Or super thin, super even coat of epoxy? What’s typically used?

:call_me_hand:

Follow these steps but instead of epoxy on the mast, put it in the mast connection on the wing. Like new and not that difficult of a process. just make sure to follow the steps carefully

I have same problem with the Progressions wobbling in the Katana

Another option is to sand down the base of the mast a bit (1 to 2 mm) to prevent the mast from bottoming out.

I’ve seen something that could be related here:

First, I’ll check if the mast actually bottoms out in the P125 socket, no bolts, just pressing it/rubbermalletting it into the socket, and if it fits tight, then I’ll try with M8x25mm.

Look really closely… Are there cracks at the fuse connection on the wing?

No cracks at all on the P125.

I just tried a press fit, and it doesn’t hold. Definitely hitting the bottom of the socket. I’ll do some minor sanding at the base of the mast, as it appears to not be 100% square and true, as far as my eyeballing accuracy goes.

That little bit of sanding (~0.5mm, if that) at the tip of the Katana mast has significantly improved the fitting, and I can feel some increasing resistance when tightening the bolts as opposed to pretty much going instantly from 0 to Infinity previously.

Just a minor imperfection with the Katana mast, maybe highlighted by the tighter tolerances of the more modern wings.

Thanks everyone!
