Hey, I’ve got a some foil repair questions for whose gone down this road. I’ve gotten fairly proficient at repairing carbon wings using Bondo and 2000 grit wet sanding. It’s pretty efficient to do and ensures that I’m removing the Bondo when sanding, but almost nothing from the wing itself. It works well for light to medium surface and leading edge scratches. The one thing that’s not ideal is the color. Not stoked on the orange. Anyone have experience tinting this stuff? I’d also be interested in extending the dry time a little. I’m currently using premixed Bondo in a tube.
Also, different problem, some poor life choices at negative tide have my KD g10 tail looking like a serrated knife along lateral and trailing edge. I’m down to just sand the sides and trailing edge. I’d also be fine trying to patch, tho I don’t know much about g10. Recommendations?
G10 is solid fiberglass/epoxy laminate so it will be fine to sand it down or patch with epoxy.
Bondo is polyester resin with a thickener, so you can tint with either graphite powder or black polyester compatible pigment but it might not be enough to take out the red all together. To slow it down just add less catalyst.
TotalFair with a little bit of graphite powder worked well for me to fix scratches and chips on leading edge. Easy to sand (softer) and is barely visible. Got the idea from Toomuchepoxy.
