Agreed. There is some threshold the 200pd club crosses that makes out experience on wings…different
The FB 1070 is really good. I compare it to the ART V1 999. But it has better glide, it’s faster, gets up quicker, turns better. It doesn’t breach tips as well as a Spitfire, or any of the Code foils, but it does it decently and won’t completely lose lift like original ARTs.
Try no shim for sure. My favorite tail setup with the 1201 is a skinny 40. For downwind and pumping. I even do a negative shim sometimes if the waves have enough power. The1201 really likes no shim, or a negative shim. I have spent time playing with the skinny 50, 55, progressive 450, 400 flat, and pump 460 on the 1201. They all add some level of pitch stability but at the cost of a bunch of drag. Cheers
What fuse and tail are you using on the 1201? I recently picked one up to start my DW journey.
My preferred set up for 1) riding waves SUP Foil (4 - 6 feet) and 2) Pump on the 1201 was the 560mm Advanced+ fuselage (Crazy Short??) and the 40 Skinny tail.
Note: The 1201 can handle speed. I am now a believer that as you (we) get better you can learn to ride a smaller tail, using a slightly longer fuselage, by more efficiently riding the front foil only. Meaning you could probably step down to a 35 skinny tail using a 600 mm fuselage. You would have less drag, higher top end but slighly poorer pump. You would just need to learn to keep your speed up.
