Duotone foil assist - Good? bad?

Guys, what did you think about the Duotone Foil Assist?

The board gets lighter, but what about the battery?

One advantage is that you can travel with it.

And the price?

Tried it, didn’t work for our upwind/downwind sessions. This was mainly due to the strange controller and lack of runtime compared to other assists

But, for surf it’s a good thing.

Duotone Foil Assist — Who It’s Actually For (And Who It Isn’t) This is a far better video and sums it up perfectly. I demoed one and then decided to purchase it because of the weight, the simplicity of setup, and the ability to session lots of local spots that aren’t prone-friendly.

I wanted a system I could easily swap to prone with, while keeping a similar weight. The controller takes about two sessions to get used to, but after that, I think it’s much better than a trigger since your hand is pretty much free and you get all the benefits related to that.

For airsail’s use or super far-out spots, FD is definitely better due to the longer runtime. For the performance and weight, though, I’m happy to come in and swap the battery after buzzing around for about 40 minutes — or you can get an hour+ if you only use it briefly to catch waves. That’s at 90KG 800 foil and 27L board.

Can you travel with the batteries?

Under current regulations, yes, but it seems some locations are tighter than others. FAA regs allow carriage of lithium batteries that size but I’ve heard some locations in the world are limiting it to medical devices only, bit of a sh!tfight really.
