Actually super super lame that they’re not making the longer carves available. What a silly choice. We’d all happily fork it over. Pretty lame, F-One. Pretty lame.
Yeah, also annoying you can’t just buy a smaller rear stabilizer that isn’t a monobloc. I already have all their existing standalone fuses so shelling out $370 for a monobloc definitely hurts lol.
100% agreed. Love the F1 foil lineup except for this. If any of y’all have F1‘s ear, for us common people, it is a huge limiting factor to not be able to get their smaller stabilizers without mono bloc. With different rider weights and riding styles, and so many different front wing options, it just doesn’t make sense not to offer fuse stab combinations that are interchangeable. Not only is monobloc cost prohibitive, but it also makes it really hard to experiment and figure out what you like. I’m willing to pay a little more for their front wings because I feel like the performance benefits are worth it. But it’s a bummer, because different tail combos can make one front wing all the more versatile effectively lowering the cost. With F1, Seems like in most instances small performance benefits of monobloc don’t justify the limitations in terms of cost, flexibility, and the performance tradeoffs of being able to dial in the setup to your needs.
Foilparts has a conversion fuse for using non f-one tails. F-One Custom Carbon Fuselages – Foilparts.com
(I’ve never used it myself)
Can you also put other bottom mount tails on the mirage fuselage? Its the same spacing, right?
It’s 30mm spacing holes on the fone top mount. Kd13r fits nicely there with the curve of the fuse. If the tail sticks out of the fuse with a flat mount the difference of drag is very much noticeable, I wouldn’t recommend.
The mirage is bottom mount so the flat part sit against the fuse properly though
Totally agree with the weird tails on the f-one, i totally wish they would just offer the same wings for the monobloc that you can just mount on one of their fuses. I had a hell of a time just trying to buy a 180 by itself.
But… does anyone have any info on the new eagle x? would be interested to hear more about it
So have anyone tried the new eagle x?
I few months ago I rented the Eagle 1090 and learned to prone with that one.
What would you recommend as a one foil quiver for prone in small waves with the the goal to link as many as possible, and lightwind winging?
I am thinking eagle 990, but would like others opinion.
For reference I am 75kg.
Beginning to see phantoms on the market, is the 740S pretty small for surf foiling?
I’m about 75 kg as well.
The 790 does a nice job of being fast and nimble enough to be a fun wing to prone - turns well, super fun, and pretty easy to connect several waves. The 690 is a lot more fun. And the 750/650 sk8 are killer prone wings but you definitely give up some pump/glide.
I’m more concerned with surfing than linking max wave count…I find the 990 a little slow to be fun in the surf zone, and there’s diminishing returns for me on wing size vs ease of pump. Yes, bigger is “easier” but it also takes longer to get from A to B. My guess is the 890 might be what you’re after if you’re willing to give up a bit of speed/turn for max connect.
Picked up a 900x, feels incredible for DW, haven’t really tried in surf zone yet, but expect the span would make it not as fun. It’s got good/easy pump, probably little less low end than 890, but a lot more top end.
I’m hearing friends raving about the bottom end of the Armstrong HA v2 range and how they’re using much smaller sizes than I can manage. For instance, using a FoilDrive Gen2 on flat water as a controlled benchmark, my 90kg friend can fly a 680 HA whereas at 84kg I couldn’t fly a Sk8 1050 but could fly an Eagle 1090.
This is with a similar amount of arm paddling and full boost on the FoilDrive.
Is anyone else able to compare the two ranges?
I’m really asking about prone but thought the FoilDrive comparison was valid.
Thats interesting. While the Armie HA has awesome low end for the size, those larger SK8 wings should be easy to pop up. The SK8 650 maybe not, but the 750-1050 for sure.
Maybe have you friend try one?
Ive been sk8n for 5months now on a 950sk8 160monoblock tail.
The moment I switched to a eagle 690 I lost most of my pumping ability. I can keep it going very briefly before i lose speed. BUT IT really does feel like the low ends are very different.
Im 90kg
Eagle 690 has 82cm span
Sk8 950 has 87cm span
950 sk8 is nothing like the 690 for pump.
The 690 is more like the 750 sk8 for pump. 690 is faster, still turns super good, but 750 is definitely more surfy feel. Toss up between which of these two are my favorite, just depends on the wave.
Hey everyone,
Has any of you been able to try the new monobloc tails ? for someone only doing prone and tow in in good waves what would be the best one ? i ride mostly my sk8 750 but i hate the XXXS 160carve it feels too instable at high speed and i find the pump terrible.
have 2 sessions on the xs 160, i like it. honestly didnt notice much of a difference. Maybe a little more stable and slower pump.
Ha.
I’m finding myself in the exact opposite camp. Been on the xxs160 for ages (sk8 750/650, Eagle 690/790, and some of the Eagle x). Thought the xs160 and xs140 would be rad, add pump, draw out turns, etc.
So far the longer fuses just feel draggy and slow to respond to input. Yes, easier pump, but really not worth the cost to speed and responsiveness.
So…couple more test sessions ahead for me, but might be unloading these if you’re keen!
@chrisvw I have the xxs 140 I’d trade for the xs140 or xs160 if you want a shorter fuse.
@exiled Interesting. I’ve not seen xxs 140 anywhere before. Where’d you pick that up?
If that was a 160 I’d definitely say yes.
Was thinking of keeping the 140 for DW carving potential…
