Same price? AFS. I prefer the AFS mast and the Silk over sk8 and NL. No real experience on the bigger downwind foils though.
If you care: I’d think that down the road the AFS kit will hold more resale value since F-One transitioned from titan 1 to titan 2 and those F-One foils and No Limitz mast are discontinued.
I can’t say enough about AFS - I absolutely love the Silks and Enduros. Assuming it comes with a fuse too? If so, you’ll be all set up for the new Silk V2s coming out as you progress!
Fone version 1 Sk8 wasnt user friendly, where as the AFS is rippable as soon as yoi set it up. The 850silk may be small for small waves, in larger waves or winging it excels. However if youre prone foiling it in small conditions, might be difficult but if you got the enduro 1000, you should be good
biased towards AFS too, but I’d say foils aside, choose the best mast you can afford, as that is the one thing that you’re likely to stick with. In this case the AFS mast is both better (UHM) and better resale compared to the Titan 1…
For the same price, AFS unless that is somehow titan2 for sale used already. I would expect to pay about 30-40% less for the f-one gear that has been discontinued.
I’d just get the new UHM 80 skinny with the updated inserts, it’s the one thing that you won’t sell as you upgrade
intermediate maybe but definitely not beginner SUP, I’ve got the E900 as my main foil at 70kg and I’m “intermediate/advanced” downwind, but would say even the E1300 is tough as a beginner for SUP
do you mean this specifically for the skinny masts being released? otherwise I don’t know what you are implying?
for most people they should use an Alu mast when they are a beginner, and then upgrade to a good mast once they commit to foiling, it’s the best money they can spend. Most people buy and sell foils but keep the mast, or if they sell the mast it’s to change brands
Ive been on the AFS UHM masts since they came out (maybe 2.5 years ago) and not desiring anything new. These masts were ahead of their time, have aged extremely well, and are certainly not outdated! Implying that a really good mast is outdated in a year or two is nonsense.
Can second this. I just sold my 75 skinny and am waiting for my 80 skinny to show up. In the meantime, I’ve been riding the OG 80cm UHM 13.8mm thick 115mm chord from 2024 and it’s still a contender for best mast all these years later. I don’t see the skinny masts as making the original obsolete. It’s a nuanced changed for riders seeking a specific experience.
For me, I didn’t plan on switching to AFS. I just demo’d a silk 850 2 years ago and was blown away by how well it carved - and how confident it made me feel in the surf. I was riding Unifoil and Armstrong at the time and it just felt so well polished compared to the stuff I was on. I took it to fiji for my first tow trip and felt like my progression exploded.
Anyways, bought the setup from The Foil Shop and have been hooked ever since. I now own a full quiver of Silk V1s, 4 Enduro sizes, and 2 V2 silks on the way. Also LOVING the AFS Blackbird DW SUP (7’6) I picked up last year. It’s way more stable than the KT Dragonfly I learned on and works great as a surf SUP too.
There’s a lot of great stuff being made these days but AFS just feels right to me. Not sure it’s worth selling your fone sk8s for as those a great wings too but highly recommend demoing AFS if you get a chance!
