Fone changed their connection system

Obviously they were losing tons of foils with their old connection system. I wonder how other brands like afs/f4 don’t lose foils like fone does. Why can’t fone copy afs or f4? Why did they have to go to the axis/code style connection

Great opportunity for other brands to grab some f one users if they’re all having to buy new wings and masts to upgrade!

Well, the new 12 mm UHM mast is fairly priced and with the Eagle/sk8 foils the system is unbelievably good, so I think most riders either take the opportunity to get great second hand deals or move on to the new system. I was pissed off at first, but having tried the new stuff I’m incredibly stoked!

AFS mast to fuse is M8 and the old FOne is M6. The connection type is similar, but the AFS hardware is more robust. While I have personally had no issues with AFS, I know some people have broken gear, but I haven’t seen issues on the mast to fuse connection where FOne was failing.

Looks like the Gong connection but with 2 M8 instead of 3 M6 .

Tuttle type connection which self tighten with use.

I’ve been wondering if fat tuttle mast/fuse connection brands are going to get pushed to go to some kind of skinny mast/fuse connection by brands like F4, it’s interesting that F-One is going this way.

Or in other words… absolutely identical to what Unifoil has been doing for a decade

I mean, the real question is, are we predicting markdowns on T1 gear…
I’d still buy T1 and flesh out my kit vs. dumping things for the new connection.

Honest question, who is riding FOne that would honestly bail to this change? Either you’re on the koolaid or you already bailed and bought code foils. I don’t think they’ll lose anyone here on the compatibility.

Won’t happen immediately, but I bet a lot of people bail over the next 12-18 mos. Once gear breaks, wears out, gets outdated or riding style changes, and someone is in the market for the new hotness, the prospect of having to buy a new mast opens up the whole market. A lot of people I know ride FOne because the original Eagle was pretty unique in the market at that time and now that they have a mast they have continued to build their quiver around that mast with the Sk8 etc…. If they had to buy a new mast to stay on FOne I’m sure they will look at everything out there (I know I would). So unless FOne has the newest and hottest foils on the market to go along with this mast, I think they will lose some brand loyalty and market share over this change.

That said - they had to do it.

This is how I switched off Sabfoil; they changed the mast and didn’t have any exciting foils out. To be fair F-One is pretty good at staying in the race with new high performance foils.

I think we might be missing something. This connection looks small. It’s possible these new masts would take adapters for larger connections. It’s possible it might actually make these T2 masts more appealing actually.

Yes but Unifoil has corners ant the ends (instead of rounded ends) which puts stress in a smaller spot and causes cracks. The round end like axis and code are better. I know almost nobody riding unifoil who hasn’t cracked a fuse

Good to know… is it worth rounding out those corners on the Unifoil mast footing then, or is it going to result in additional slop?

As for the F-One, I wonder if there is any cross compatibility with some other brands that use that type of joint. Probably not, as this wouldn’t make too much sense in terms of marketing, but we could have dreamt of an opportunity to create some sort of standard in the size of the socket and the spacing of those M8 bolts.

Xfoils podcast specifically addresses that. No standard is coming between all the brands anytime soon.

Could you imagine the kick the can down the street on warranty issues? It was his mast that broke it! It was his fuse that broke it. It was his tail shim that broke it!

There’s a bunch of people around here who ride Uni and I’ve never seen a cracked fuse, but what you’re saying makes sense. I think Uni have slightly rounded corners, but not maxed out like Code.

what broke on the AFS gear? The mast at the base?

So listening to the podcast

12uhm Titan2 for downwind

A sk8 v3 for titan2 and new monobloc tails coming out…and a new surf foil coming out May2026 called Sushi for titan2

I guess this gives me an opportunity to switch to something new… unless they somehow improve the SK8, then ill still be all in.
