I am 93kg and have used the 750,850,800 and 1050 on an 85ax. I plan to get the 85RC as the 85ax mast is struggling with 1050 - the 800 feels ok - both wind and parawing - but I suspect it is very much boarder-line at my weight. Happy to report back when I have used both back to back. The 750 is the foil I am loving most at the moment, and this feels good on the 85ax.
At 87kg + full winter kit, with the 75 AX, I find it fine with 800. With the 1050 I feel that a RC would be an improvement.
If 800 was my biggest size, I would go for AX.
I am winging, and just started parawing.
The RC is still what most brands would call a skinny mast.
I’m 205 plus wetsuit and SUP. Bottom line, if you have found that prefer like stiffer mast, you probably won’t love this combination. Totally rideable, but it is noticeably flexy. I’d suggest this only if you really want the lowest possible drag, it is quite a difference in drag once you get high on the mast. Pretty fun, but definitely a tradeoff.
I am 210 and have Orca 1250, 1050, and 800. Before buying a mast I talked to F4 guys and was strongly advised to go for RC at my weight. Even for 800 and definitely for 1050 and 1250.
Had my first go with the Manta 635 today with the parawing. 85cm skinny mast and 135 XS DW tail.
Immediately could feel the reduction in span compared to the 685 Orca. Maybe a bit more effort to get on foil, but I was chronically under sailed as I upsized three times.
Initial impressions are extremely positive. Maybe less ‘loose’ on the roll initiation at low speeds compared to the Orca, but once in the carve, it was very confidence inspiring. Able to pump and catch up / overtake bumps quite easily. I wasn’t left wishing for more glide or pump, which was a concern.
My first stow was on a groomed waist high whaleback swell that continued for 200 yards before I kicked out after 10 swooping carves with a huge grin!
While the Orca demands precise body mechanics to pull a great carve, the Manta allows a more relaxed approach, but still very sporty. Can’t wait to put a surf stab on and get to know this wing more!
Hi,
thanks for the comments, it’s what we were going for with the manta as it’s for designed for turning in steeper waves. There is a new xfoils podcast out - we are working on a project for a specific wing, tune in to see how the sausage is made !
Br,
Chris
Thanks for sharing Chris!
1/ Which part of the podcast is there a teaser in? I got about 15 min in and gave up ![]()
2/ Tuttle Boards + Masts? I see that there is now a 100L 6.5’ Tuttle board on the website (amazing!). Are there any plans to produce one size down (85-90L?) - it would be temping to just buy the used 92L race board, but probably not best for parawing. How about the tuttle masts?
The teaser is Walt suggesting to Chris, they make an in between (Orca and Manta) aspect model. Targeted toward Gorge waves. Prototype work will proceed.
The new Emona parawing board will be available with tuttle in all sizes.
For masts I know there is a 82cm tuttle coming, as it has been mentioned here. And there is a video with Chris and Ken Adgate talking about it. Oh, and I have ordered one![]()
I’ve just got the 100l Julitta and waiting for a 82 mast. My parawinging is currently at a level where I don’t mind a bit more volume, and in a few months I will go for the 85 Emona parawing.
Anyone know what the weight of the new F4 ParaWing boards are coming in at
@Oyvbirk - Any idea what the weight is for the 100L Julitta? I have found that a 7’ board tangles into the bridles, so ideally would do 6’ or just over. 82cm Tuttle sounds perfect.
Just measured the 100l i have. 5.7 kg.
My soon to be one year old 85l Julitta is a bit under 5kg, and holding up very well.
I used to have a V2 R-board 90l, which was about 4.5kg.
Also I have a 75 liter v1 R-board that is just above 4kg.
I’ve seen on Instagram that F4 have gotten a surfshaper CNC up and running in Bulgaria now, so excited to see whats to come.
Thank you, you’re a legend!
Myself and my wallet $hould know better but… I demoed an orca 800 w/ 135 tail. What a foil- so much fun. Plenty wind- 22 w/ burly gusts to mid 30s to get up but still, I was surprised at how much bottom end lift it had. Was thinking I’d need 1050 for my 215lbs Parawing, but now need to decide. Anyone have input on pairing tail for my weight 800 or 1050 for parawing, upwind downwind and straight downwind?
Yeah I also demoed the 800 Orca and now I have it and the 685 Orca with the Manta 635 on the way. After 3 years on a leading brand with the same aspect model available I was surprised by the gap. The performance of the Orca in the bumps was just too hard to ignore.
It means I am riding an 800 Orca in the same conditions as I previously rode a 900 yet enjoying the low end close to my old 1000 with glide better than my old 900 and top end and turning like my old 700. Incredible range with a lovely surfy feel to me. The 685 is just as impressive.
I am about 195lbs and use the 135xs with the 685, 800 and 1050.
Have used the 685 and 800 alot for dw with wing in fjord bumps. And have now had 4 sessions on the parawing. One with 800 and the rest with 1050. I can get up on the 800, but I use the 1050 just to take the “getting up” part of of the process.
I did also a few sessions ago take the 1050 on a DW with wing in solid conditions, just to try. (Was on a 2.9 wing, and my buddy on a 1.9 parawing) And was very surprised of how much top end it had.
For me the 135xs works great. But have also ordered a surf tail to try.
Before I was on the 170xs, which gives much more pitch stability. But the 135 is a lot more fun.
I have done quite a bit of back-and-forth with different fuse lengths on the 800 and I find that if it’s slow tight bumps, the XS is good but for moderate conditions to strong conditions, the S is a lot better.
I have also used the S on the 685 and had some of my fastest KM’s but for overall conditions, I prefer the XS 135 with the 685.
Ordered a 100 S to try with the 800. Will report back on that.
Also demoed 850 and 635 Manta and unfortunately have to add one of those to the quiver too.
No 1050 to demo here so curious. That’s a lot of span compared to 800- how does it turn/surf in comparison? Obviously not going to go rail to rail as well, but have fears it would be pretty locked in being that wide.
I used it on the skinny 75AX mast. And feel it would respond better on turns with the RC. Especially with my weight.
But still, i had surprisingly much fun.
