If I had to put money on it, I’d say the board’s electronics includes a gyroscope / accelerometer like any smart phone has these days. Pair that with another sensor that detects water within the board’s jet piping and you have a method to know when a person is paddling through the water.
A SUP DW board alone is around 6kg too.
I believe everything has its place. What I truely love about what I have now is a board (4’2) I can use for multiple disciplines. I prone it and love it with the blank cartridge in. It feel as good as my favourite prone. If the waves are huge or not even breaking I slide that jet cartridge in and out I go. I can wing it with or without the jet depending on the wind strength and I can also downwind it. Yes I could go out and buy multiple boards of different shapes and sizes but I genuinely would rather be on this :-). It might not be for everyone but anyone that has ridden it has lost there mind, or they are just being super nice and polite to me. I have always been of the opinion that if it works for you and you are having an epic time out there then do that. Hopefully I have created something that creates and epic time for more people.
Oh it wasn’t a criticism ! On the contrary !
I mean for now I need a 7 foot+ / 6kg SUP to go downwind, and with this Flite solution, I would also need a 6kg board, but under 5 foot long ! That’s amazing !
Plus you probably can size down the foil !
I was not very interested in the Foil drive stuff, because I don’t want to have a battery and a motor under my board when downwinding and for good surfing conditions.
I see the interest for crappy surf conditions, but that’s all. Not worth the money for me.
With the jet that’s totally different for sure !
I’m very very interested in it, and this look like a real game changer to me.
Can’t wait to have more informations about it !
Is 7 kg with or without battery in board?
7kg ish is with 2 batteries. We have some parts including board that is already out of production but some parts are still proto so the weights could change but we are doing everything we can to keep it near 7kg with 2 batteries. One thing we wont compromise on is battery safety and that is adding a little weight with the BMS and other tech that will make them one of the safest batteries of there size. Hoping we can achieve our target weight on the final batteries. You can run one battery which I do sometimes depending on conditions but you can’t get max power out of the jet with one and your runtime is cut down by half. I still usually get a good 2 hours on one depending on how often I use the paddle assist and boosts.
What does 1 battery represent KWh wise? How many batteries do you need to get the 25kg of thrust?
You need both batteries to get 25kg of thrust each battery is 152wh so 304wh for both batteries joined together.
Winging with a sinker in super light wind
Hey Bwalnut
Sorry can’t talk prices yet as we are finalising some things but we are doing our best to be competitive. stay tuned and if you sign up on the website you will be the first to know.
Yes you are correct the jet version pitches less than our mast version but after a little while you do get used to both. Even with the Jet version as you pick up a lot more speed when catching a wave than a normal prone the foil does come up a little faster. Most people adjust in the first session. I don’t notice it at all anymore. It just feels normal to me.
The jet definitely doesn’t pitch at the start like the mast version and as the system takes care of the acceleration and everything for you hands free and like you mentioned it’s in the board. It’s nice to just focus on paddling and getting to your feet. We are working hard on the software for the mast version to smooth out the take off and also add in as many safety feature as we can to stop the prop in the event of a fall.
No electronics in the board. So repairs are the same as you normal Carbon board. Durability will be the same as most high performance prone boards
How do the controls on the deck work if there are no electronics in the board? And will the mast version use a remote or the same controls as the jet?
The Launch Pad Clips into the front of the board and uses bluetooth to talk to the cartridge. It clips back out for wireless charging and for swaping between boards.
The mast we have a few options we are working on to control the motor but haven’t 100% locked down which path we are going.
Safety with the mast is our No.1 priority with the Mast. Easy with the jet you couldn’t hurt yourself if you tried. We have a ton of sensors in this system and a huge amount of software has been written already.
I can’t share exactly how we are controlling the mast as we have a few super cool options we have been testing and will continue to test until we find the safest solution.
Thanks for the info. I’m already sold and determined to be one of the first to order one. Just curious to know all the details.
Congrats. This is awesome. My spots have an abundance of big, steep, non breaking waves. Issue is getting past the shore break. You use an image of a duck dive: Is the propulsion control and jet system itself designed to get through hectic whitewater zones? Thanks.
Yes you can definitely use it for that. It’s will be some of the deepest duck dives you have ever done
excellent. thanks. eager for the launch - keep us posted!
Any idea on different board sizes?
At launch we will have 3 prones. 4’2 , 4’6 and a larger volume 4’8. And then we are still tweaking the 2 wing boards but they will be around 5’0 @ 50L and 5’4 at 80L. This is all at launch but then the range will expand over time
Just wondering if the jet system is removable/ interchangeable? As in if you buy the prone board with it, can you buy the wing board without and swap depending on which you are using?
