Matt or others, can you contrast the 180hax to the 170ha? Does the 170 have more low end, lower stall speed, or any other advantage? Or is the 180hax just superior all around?
The 170HA has a narrower wing span, lower AR, and higher camber.
The 180HA-X has a wider wingspan, higher aspect ratio, and slightly lower camber. This gives it more glide and effortless pumping. We were able to maintain solid turning characteristics by using high modulus carbon on the 180 which stiffens the wing significantly vs. the 170 High Aspect.
Bottom line is the 180HA-X is a more efficient wing, 170HA rolls over in the turns a little bit more. Low-end is similar but the 180 has a higher top end.
Very soon my friend!
Hi Matt, I see you respond to a lot of Lift foil questions and had one myself. I am currently wing foiling on a ha 170 - and in 15 plus winds, its more than sufficient lift/speed. On days between 10-15 kts, I struggle to get enough lift to get on foil. Was looking to add a light wind foil to my setup for these days. Would you recommend something like ha180/220x or do you think the older HA 200 is a better choice ( i noticed up above you mentioned 180/220 are designed for downwinding)
Hi Bam, I’d recommend you go with the 220HA-X for the best low end performance and glide in light wind winging conditions.
